was looking at my last post and the advice about weight loss. I haven’t yet felt like I could take that on,
I feel the same way. Life currently has taken some of my dedicated time away from FD, so as a middle ground, I figured she should NOT have more than 200 calories a day based on lots of research but more specifically from catinfo.org. I've gotten into the habit of placing the number of cans of food that equal this amount or less for the day and place them on the cat designated portion of the kitchen counter. This enables me to "visualize" how much food to spread out over the 24 hours without actually counting the calories specifically at each meal.
This method is probably not Weight watchers approved but it seems to be working. Cleo hasn't thinned out, but I'm seeing more definition in her overall body condition score. :cat:

Angela, thanks so much for all of this. I was very good for a while about putting 200 calories into glass bowls with lids so I’d know exatly what to feed her in 24 hours, like you said. The problem was, she would start to go low, especially at night, and then what could I do but break out more food to keep her afloat? I guess I should get used to letting her go below 40 (or 3x under 50) to earn reductions, but I can’t seem to do it. She’s obviously not comfortable with it either — she starts meowing insistently, and sometimes almost screaming, when too low, so what can I do but keep feeding her until it passes? I haven’t figured it out … I keep trying/hoping ….

Same here! Safety is paramount and I don't count calories during lime cycles.
When this happens to me, I call that day a wash with counting calories and the next day I put aside 20 calories less for the day and add a play session. Cleo likes the laser pointer and really gets into chasing it. She's older now so the sessions are only 5-10 minutes but it's technically more cardio than I'm getting :p.

Lol, Angela — I’m glad at least one of you is getting some cardio! This is a very sensible approach, and I am bookmarking it for reference next time I feel muddled, which is about every other day …:rolleyes:

I loike your way of doing it, Angela :)
I feed Bella raw food, I counted the weight of food she should have for the number of calories I want to feed her (lower than 200 since she is technically still on a diet), and I weight every meal. I counted 2 snacks in that as well. If she goes in limes I do not count either, I try to give her very small amounts but as you said, safety first. And she gets loud too when her numbers get low.
