9/27 Yemala honeymoon over

Hi all.

Yemala went into remission for the third time last year. She is now 21. She has been suffering from occasional recurrent pancreatitis and UTI issues, but her BGs have been consistently in the blues during this time.

She is probably experiencing pancreatitis now. She had a vet visit yesterday, and we sought her 6 month blood panel. Staff was unable to get blood as she was agitated from the pain in her abdomen. Only sedation would allow a draw. We declined, as she is really old, and she received Cerenia as an injection and gets pill forms twice per day.

But her BG on Saturday was 195 when she was absolutely fasting. This morning, she refused food and her BG was 300. I had gotten her to eat her favorite treat yesterday - raw chicken liver - but she is refusing again.

I will move heaven and earth to get blood work done tomorrow if only to confirm the diabetes and get insulin started. She will go back onto Lantus, and we'll be communicating more as we start gathering data.

I am more worried about her now than at any other time.

She is currently sitting over her bubbler and will not voluntarily eat. We will do assisted feeding today, but is there anything we can do to make her more comfortable tonight? No vet until tomorrow.

Sorry to year Yemala is not doing well. Do you have any medications from the last time she had pancreatitis besides Cerenia? Any instructions from the vet visit on what to do? Pancreatitis can be painful so usually some pain med is indicated. Since she likes chicken liver, have you ever tried: THE '~LIVER SHAKE~' FOR SICK CATS
