Accidental lancet prick

I have a question and I know I will get quick answers here. I was blood testing my cat with a lancet doing it freehand. In the lancet device but just manually pricking. My cat flinched when I stuck her and the lancet went in to my finger causing just a tiny amount of blood from me. She has no known diseases that I know of and she gets her senior panel regularly. I washed my finger with soap and water. And put hydrogen peroxide on it.

So my question is, should I be concerned that I got stuck. Has that happened to anyone else? Should I call my vet to ask?

I think that has happened to most of us. When I did it, I tested my own BG (which was normal).
You can call your vet to put your mind at ease, but I think you're okay.

i think most of us have stuck ourselves with either a needle or a lancet at one time or another. washing it well is about all you can do.
you can certainly call your vet if it'll make you feel better.
all i did was wash the wound well... and i'm here to tell about it.

I've done it lots of times, and sometimes (like Carl) took advantage and tested myself too.
I think you did fine by washing with soap and water.

It has happened to me. More than once. No harmful effects to me or my cat. I did do a recheck on the numbers. But if you want more professional reassurance, a vet call would be fine. Makes sense to be curious.

Thank you for all the reassuring messages. I did end up calling the vet right after I posted this and the office also said that I should be fine.

I took the 911 off of my post. Thank you again for the quick responses. It's been a stressful week with a newly diagnosed diabetic cat.

I pricked myself with a used lancet. Don't think I even bothered to wash it. But then, teachers have great immune systems.

Lots of experience with lancet pricks here, with no side effects! I do think it's a good idea to wash your hands, though, before and after the tests.

I'm still pretty new at this but I've found that a lot of it is just getting used to all the weird and unpredictable things that can happen with Feline Diabetes. It makes you work and bond so closely with your cat that you become more aware of how weird cats really are  and also how weird humans really are  and how amazing it is that even with all our weirdness we can still be really close friends!

This group, Lantus Land, is a great place to help you to relax about a lot of the new things, and to focus on the important stuff. I hope you find the neighborhood to be as supportive and comforting as we have.

Yup, I am one who pricked and didn't really do anything (other than test my level).....

but now with all these peeps who washed their hands, it makes me wonder lolol.....it was several months ago, in the beginning, so I figure I must be ok, but does explain why I purr a lot and attempt to cough up hairballs..... ;-)
