Pika and Shellz

Member Since 2023
Okay so.. Im not sure what is going on with pika and his sugars. I am at his injection time and he is only at like 100.. and trying to predict where he will be in 2 hours is impossible unfortunately cause he is doing all sorts of new not common things. So he played in the low range and then in the technical high hypo range in the 60.

my husband actually gave him honey before he left for work. With gravy frisky shreds to like stop in the insulin and to stop him from going any lower with the arrow straight down (libre sensor) he was at 75⬇️ by 11:40 And that caused a small spike to 150 then he quickly went down into the 60s soon after. And he has been playing in the 80-100 (in range) but I don’t know what to do.. I haven’t gave insulin since 8:20 am.. so he is past due he was at 104 my last scan.

also what are good treats and foods for hypo sugars.. thank you in advance!!

How long since his shot was due? What is the latest reading? The Libre reads much lower than a regular meter in normal numbers. Any chance you can get a test with a meter?

The Libre is a human meter to the normal range is 50-100. Below 50 would be below normal. With the Alphatrak, below 68 would be below normal.

I ended up doing 1 unit. His shot was due at 8:30 and he got the 1 Unit at 9:30 his last scan at insulin was 219. He has climbed up. I was looking at his charts and thinking he might follow what he did on the 28th.. but nope. and the .5 unit wasn’t enough that night so I went with 1 knowing he will clime and he didn’t just slowly clime like the 28th He shot up like a rocket starting at 10. (Bouncing)

I tried earlier with AlphaTRAK but his ear wouldn’t bleed.. we poked 3 times I was even free handing so I know I got it. Just wouldn’t produce enough blood it hasn’t learned to bleed. I need to buy some Vaseline to help it bead.

Try warming and massaging the ear before poking. That helps increase blood flow. Sometimes you even have to "milk" the ear after a poke to increase the size of the blood drop. You might also want to use a fatter lancet (26-28G rather than 30-31G) to poke a larger hole. When using a lancing device try setting to poke to a larger depth (higher setting).
