We have increased Lila's Caninsulin to 1.25 twice daily and have been getting some much lower readings. Unfortunately yesterday am dose was missed completely as we had an emergency with our dog and Lila would be home alone and after lower readings the previous cycle decided to skip dose to be safe. However despite this it seems that after last night's dose she is back on track and produced 16.3 amps which is quite a dramatic improvement. Would this indicate we have now got the dose correct or could her body be also producing insulin now possibly? As the increase was only from 1 - 1.25 (a tiny increase). We are now wondering if Lila should have am dose as the previous time pre shot was lower it resulted in some very low (for her) readings and we had to give some higher carb foods to get any kind of increase in bg s (see ss).

I don't see any extremely low numbers. Blue numbers are good and exactly where you want her to be. Don't rush to high carb food when she's in the blues.... At that point she was past nadair and wasnt going to drop much lower if at all. I know it's nerve wracking seeing blues when you aren't used to it, but it is what you want to see!

Thanks, it is a bit scary! whilst also really pleased to see the lower numbers. She is higher again this am but hopefully will see good numbers again later. When we do see the blue numbers presumably we should offer her some of her low carb food to keep her level at those numbers and prevent a potential drop as recently the insulin seems to be effective for longer in the cycle at times?

She may "bounce" a bit the day following those blues because her body isn't used to it yet, but as she gets used to those better numbers that should settle down. Great job home testing.

The number that is considered "time to act" as far as giving higher carb food on an Alphatrak is 68. If you see her in the low 80's and she hasn't hit her lowest hours yet, then you could give a few bites of her regular food to even her out. But being in the blues are no time to worry.... Those numbers under 150 are when her pancreas has a chance to heal! :)

Are you feeding Lila 30 minutes before you shoot?

Yes, she is fed 30 mins before then 2 & 4 hours later with smaller meals.
