Changing food variety

Quick question: Harry's on Lantus, tightly regulated to where we've been decreasing steadily for past 2 months (from 3.1 to 1.25 today). He's been on Nature's Variety Frozen Raw chicken/turkey variety, but one of my other finicky eaters will only eat NV rabbit variety, which also has pork in it. Harry now insists on the rabbit as well. According to labels, protein and carbs are equal to one another. Any thoughts on switching him to rabbit/pork? Thanks! HarryzMom

Hello and welcome!
I'm not familiar with Nature's Variety but just wanted to say hello and let you know you can also cross post this question in the Health forum. In the meantime, see what others here in lantus land think about the food question.

Happy New Year!

I believe there is a thread on Nature's Variety on Health currently.

Many cats like rabbit. If your guys like it, I suspect it's fine. I don't think there's a particular problem with pork -- whereas many cats are allergic to beef. My only thought about Nature's Variety is that it does have vegetable matter in it (i.e., carbs). My guys didn't like Nature's Variety (they preferred Feline's Pride) but if Harry and your civie are happy with it.....

I've been going through the food debate too. I started on NV rabbit, then switched to a local supplier, then switched to Wellness canned, but no matter what food I choose, they all seem to have some level of carbs. If you kitties like the food, and the BG's are under control, I say it's a-ok to feed whatever makes them happy. And makes life easiest for you. IMO. Good luck.

Thanks, so far it's the only food my picky eater Percy doesn't get constipated on or throw up. I have 5 cats total, fortunately only one sugar kitty. We started out on wellness, but have seen great improvement in all 5 since going fully to the frozen raw. Had tried the feline pride but Percy threw it up. The carb level is really low, even with the veggies, and we're having great success with the BGs. So the only question was the effect of other meats on other body organs, if there is one. Other than that I might actually have the food issues cleared up -- yeah, after 7 years!
