    Hi there.

I was told to post here to get started!

Charlie (12) was diagnosed on 4/1, switched from standard kibble free feeding to canned low carb pates.
2x daily before insulin. Started Lantus at 1 unit 2x daily on 4/6. We are doing 2x daily at home testing just before meals. Numbers have been coming down from 500 at diagnosis to between 160 and 193 last 3/4 tests.

Doing his curve Tuesday April 13th and follow up appointment Friday April 16th.

    Thank you!

Welcome to the FDMB Emma and Charlie!

There are 3 main steps to successful treatment.

It's great that you've already switched to low carb canned food! That's the important first step and it looks like it's already helping!

Lantus is an excellent insulin for cats so you're 2 for 2 now!

Home testing is very important and the 3rd step, but with Lantus, it's important to get tests in between the shots too. You test before feeding/shooting to make sure they're high enough for insulin at all, but you also need to test between the shots to see how low the dose is taking Charlie. Lantus dosing is based on that low point, not the Pre-Shot numbers.

Here's some information to help us to help you. It's kind of late tonight so hopefully you'll hear from some others later or tomorrow.
