Dose question after extreme dental surgery

post about surgery today

Previous Lantus post

Hi everyone, it’s been quite a day, Juggie had his dental surgery today…14 extracted. Poor guy. He’s a trooper and doing great. I have a quick question, the vet had us lower his dose this am to 1U. She said once home, if he was eating good (which he is eating like a champ) to give him his pm dose but keep it at 1U and then tomorrow he can return to higher doses. So I gave him 1U tonight but tomorrow do I return to 2.5U or go slow at .25 increases??? I won’t be home all day to test him (someone will be here to monitor him but they can’t test)

Oh the poor guy! 14 extractions???!!! Has the vet given him something for pain? Is he eating okay?

You can go back to his previous dose of 2.25U - you need not increase in 0.25U increments. The dental could improve his numbers, so you want to get as many tests as possible - before leaving for work and before bed.

He was given 4 days worth of metacam for pain and inflammation and also antibiotics. He’s eating like a champ and is acting near normal. Walking around, up and down stairs (supervised) eating, etc

I will only be able to do his amps and then next one wouldn’t be until +10 at earliest.

Just checking in how is Juggie doing ,still eating like a champ :cat:
On your spreadsheet can you possibly move the 2022 tabs over so that it's the first one to open. I hope you have a good night :bighug::bighug::cat:
Omg!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t even know you could move them. Soooo much more convenient now lol!!

Juggie is doing great. Eating a lot, not as much as usual (that’s probably a good thing lol) but close. he’s back to giving me regular baths (seriously my dude would bathe me all day long if I let him hahaha) He spends a lot of time on my bed downstairs where it’s dark, cool and quiet (it’s his fav place) but he does come up often and hangs out he was even chasing his brother around today. He has one day left of the metacam and another week of his antibiotics. Jack goes in for his dental evaluation exam tomorrow and we will make Juggies check up appointment then as they want to see him about a week after surgery. Thanks for checking in on us. Means the world :)

I'm so glad he's doing good. that's too funny about giving you baths.
Good luck with Jacks dental evaluation. Nice to see him back in the blues.
Let me know how Jacks evaluation goes :bighug::cat:
They both are so adorable

Thanks. :) I’m really hoping he just needs a good cleaning. He has bad breath too (not as bad as Juggies was) because his mouth doesn’t smell at all now :) )but his teeth don’t look like Jug’s did, so fingers crossed. I will cry if he needs teeth pulled too!

I agree, the blues look lovely, hoping to see better numbers from him now

I hope Jack only needs a cleaning fingers crossed :cat:
Well we just got back from the exam and they high estimate that he needs 12 pulled she did say there were some that she put as needing extraction but upon X-ray May not need pulling at all… inflamed red swollen gums and no cavities. His surgery date is April 21. Super bummed that his teeth need pulling

Oh Jesus, Dena I'm sorry to hear that, you just get one with Juggie and now Jack,
At least Juggie will be all healed up by then, but it still sucks!
I hope Jack does as good as Juggie has been going.
I'm really sorry about Jack. Please keep in touch, how's Juggie by the way

Ya, apparently when it rains it pours :( I really convinced myself he wouldn’t need any pulling but I was so wrong. Definitely do not have the money for this ( time to max out the credit card) but what can you do! I am indeed thankful that at least jug will be healed and also thankful that Jack isn’t a diabetic too.
Jug is doing good. Today was his last day of pain killers and I did notice he wasn’t eating as much this evening (still ate all his food just in a few trips vs chow it all down) and I’ve had to put some purebites on top to entice him (nothing more fun than squishing purebites chicken into a fine dust so he can eat it lol) he goes for his 1week checkup on Thursday so keeping fingers crossed he gets the “all good” from them then. Thanks for checking in, I’m Off to bed (1:45am here) as it’s been a long long day.
