I am starting a fresh and I need your input. I know I can't make all my decision based what I am told, but it gives me a better understanding what I am up against.
Vet visit today.
***Vet did an ultrasound. Found the mass and it is lymphoma and it is wrapped around his intestines.
***Vet said no use steroids to treat it because of his diabetes because then I would be back to treating that condition again when I now have him in remission and was told not to give anymore insulin. She told me not to check his BG anymore, but I can't not do that. I will be keeping my spreadsheet up to date. It doesn't hurt him, it doesn't hurt me and it does give me a peace of mine.
***She gave me Cerenia tablets for nausea.
***She gave me Buprenorphine in the event I can tell he is in extreme pain to help him as I monitor him in hospice care
***He has been shaking his head a lot and scratching his ears a lot. She checked that for me and said he did have inflammation in both ears. She gave me Tresaderm for that. She said this medication would cause his BG to increase, but not to worry about it.

So, I guess I am just waiting on him to die.
I know I let my last cat (Regina Renee) suffer to much. I should have put her down way before I did. I just don't want to let them go!!!!
She had cancer all over!!!

My guess, is he just going to starve himself too death? He can't eat or only licks his food. I know he is hungry so I declined the mediation that gives him an appetite.

What can I do for him?
Thank you.
I'm a mess.

Hi there,

I'm not familiar with your dear kitty's situation, but I have just started mine on buprenorphine (as well as given him a proper dose of Cerenia) this week and they have greatly improved my kitty's nausea, appetite, and overall state of wellbeing. I hope that these two medications make Robert feel better and encourage him to eat. If they don't help, there are other anti-nausea meds available that might do the trick, so don't give up.

Wishing you good luck with your second opinion!

It's sad your vet said no to giving cortisone. Even human cancer people gets that, as well as animals cancers.
Simba's own vet at our Animal Hospital, Internal Medicine Chief Björn Åblad, said Simba could have cortisone, even if being diabetic. If there was a raise in bg from that, we just adjusted his insulin amount accordingly.

How old is Robert?

You need to see an oncologist ASAP. Some forms of lymphoma can be treated with chemo. With the large mass time is important. Prednisolone would be only one part of the treatment. It sounds like large cell. A biopsy would be needed to determine if treatable. So sorry.

I agree that you need to see a specialist. You need to provide the treatment that gives the best quality of life. If I had to choose between treating lymphoma or bringing a cat out of remission, I would choose the treatment. Diabetes is manageable even if he needs to go back on insulin.

Many cats that have an aggressive cancer have been known to go OTJ. So you may find that prednisolone raises the bg but in between it’s in a good range and insulin might be needed minimally, even once every 24 hours or less.
