    Hi,

My cat Ziggy was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago. We initially started with 1 unit of prozinc. About a week ago he got a Freestyle Libre 3 and his glucose levels will not budge. He is staying in the 400 constantly. I am now up to 2 units which I have done 4 times now.

The Libre still shows high glucose and I haven’t seen it come down once. I am I getting nervous and defeated. Is this normal?? Will it just take a while to find the perfect amount?

    Help!!!

Hi there. I’m sorry you are having such a hard time with Ziggy. It was good to start with 1 unit, but we would not have recommended increasing by a whole unit all at once (if that is what happened.) I would not expect you to find his good dose right in the beginning. Also, his body is very used to being in high numbers so it can take some time to see the blood glucose come down. What is he eating? Is he on a low carb wet food diet, that’s very important in getting BG down. High carb food will just fight against the insulin in making numbers increase.

I would love to help you and Ziggy. We should first get you set up with a spreadsheet and you can start filling it in from the Libre readings. Then I will really be able to see better what is going on with Ziggy. Let me send you some information on getting a spreadsheet set up.

Also, there’s a lot of valuable information in the sticky notes at the top of this forum. It can all be very overwhelming and sometimes confusing at first, but don’t worry— you don’t have to master everything. We are here to help guide you.

He is eating purina one urinary tract food with royal canin glycobalance. Try to only give him wet food but he sneaks in a couple dry bites of his brothers…

We went from 1 unit to 1.5 and now at 2. His glucose still super high. I’ll try to see if I can add into the spreadsheet.

Thank you for all your help. Just want to make sure I’m doing all I can for him.

@Diane Tyler's Mom didn’t we establish that Glycobalance was quite high in carbs? Is this a wet or dry food, @ZigguOB? Yep, dry food is definitely a no no for a diabetic cat, in general.

I have wet & dry of both and they are mixed. And glycobalance is what the vet gave me to switch to but I only have a little left so once I’m out I won’t buy more.

I wish to not have any dry food in my house but my other cat refuses to eat any wet food.
