Hello. My cats on lantus 2 units. I gave him a curve today. I don’t have much data just started home testing. His b g been 175 from 2+ until now 11+. I’m concerned how to proceed with his next shot. I’m very new to this and didn’t expect such steady fairly low numbers. Thank you.
Can you set up a spreadsheet? Did you post an intro on the main Health forum? That’s the place to start. Human or vet meter? What are you feeding? How long on insulin? They will get you set up. I’m glad you joined the best place for a diabetic cat and are asking for help before you shoot.
I’m working on a spreadsheet. I just started home testing. My phone is not updated. It crashed. Thanks.
Re lion meter. 2 units lantus. For five months. Just did a diet change to fancy feast from kibble about a week.
How much does your cat weigh? What’s his/her name? Was kitty started on 2 units? Been on Lantus whole time? Has the dose ever been changed?
He’s 12 pounds. 12 yrs old. He’s been up to 3.5 units. Changed dose couple weeks ago. Changed food a week ago. Lantus the whole time. I just don’t know how to proceed when numbers are low or so steady. I just started testing a week ago when I switched food as I was scared. Thanks.
I’m glad started testing. If you have a week of numbers you can start a spreadsheet and then we can help you. That’s not a low number but we don’t know how he reacts to insulin.
I will work on the spreadsheet. Last week he was higher mid day he stayed in the 200 s all cycle. If he’s under 200 is it fair for me not to shoot Bc I don’t have data. Also I’m unsure how to handle this in the am. If he’s low again. Or high Bc I’m afraid. Thanks.
He’s been eating every couple hours. I feed him fancy feast. I changed his food and started testing one week from today. I’m just nervous I didn’t expect steady numbers like this that are not high. And fairly low. Thanks.
I understand. We say you should pick up the food two hours before Insulin. How’s he eaten in the last two hours?
The dose is based upon how low it takes your cat. It’s not the same every day which is why we look at trends. Eliminating dry food is bringing his numbers down. He had a late nadir. How long past your insulin time is it?
Since it’s late and we need data to help you I would like you to skip tonight. Do you need help setting up a spreadsheet? Feed him. Then come back. What time do you shoot? Which time zine are you in?
14 hours. And I’ll try to set up my sheet tomorrow my phone crashed when I tried. I have an old phone. . I just tested him he’s 190 at +14 hours. I will follow up with you tomorrow. In case if he’s under a certain number should I skip the shot? Or decrease. I don’t know how this is handled. Thanks.
Eastern time. I’m in Pennsylvania. His shot time is 8 am. And it’s been 14 hours since last shot here. I just tested him he’s in the high 100 s. 190. Thanks.
What time do you test in the morning? I want you to read the yellow stickies at the top of this forum page. It’s a lot of information so you won’t be able to absorb it all. Read the one about what’s a depot and also dosing methods we use. For now since you have a lot to learn I would start with SLGS.
I am in California so I will be asleep for your morning test. Do you have some time now to read SLGS?
In the morning If over 150 you can shoot. If under post here. If you need help setting up the spreadsheet we have people to help. Just ask.
Hello. My cat was at 376 this morning. Reply when you can I know your probably sleeping. I will read the materials. Thank you.
Hi! @tiffmaxee is west coast and I'm kind of new here and can't give dosing advice. I would re-read your convo from yesterday and see her advice! A few tips to help you settle in here - Setting up the spreadsheet Elise mentioned is KEY. Those giving advice only have the spreadsheet to help you. Spreadsheet Instructions Create a new thread each day and name it with the date and your kitty's name - e.g., 09/11 <Kitty name> AMPS ### - here's the reason why this board asks for this. You are in the right place and you'll get more eyes and help if you start with those two items! I know there's a LOT of info here - it's overwhelming at times - but you'll catch on and so many people here want to help!
Hi Chrissy, Could you please start a new thread/condo today? This is a very long post, lots of replies and it's from yesterday. So today it should be like this: go to the top of this forum and click on the blue button that says "Post New Thread" 9/11 Cat Name AMPS ### It's really important to do this. So we can all start fresh today...it gets really busy on this forum and your post will cause confusion by everyone getting up looking at the new posts. Thank you!
Yes. Good job. Can you monitor throughout the next few days? I don’t know if 1.25 will be enough. Now that you have a ss add a signature. Look at mine for info to include.
I can monitor and check Back with you. I just didn’t know what dose to stay on. And I didn’t know if lantus also could be reduced due to low numbers occasionally. If he was low could you lesson dose ? Or hold. Thanks.
I hope I’m being clear. Just very nervous and inexperienced to when his numbers lowers. I don’t know how to proceed. Thank you.
I’m sort of confused. How long have you been giving Lantus? How’s Kirby been in tge same dose the whole time? Who has been giving you dosing advice? You have been a member here for several months. Yiu doubt have a signature and just started a spreadsheet. Did you just start testing?
Kirby has been on lantus. Since may 2020. He was on a higher dose. But he has been on 2 units for a month. And I just started home testing and I changed his diet for a week only. To fancy feast. No one has given me dose info. I don’t know how to do a signature.
Go to the main health forum. Start a new thread. Title it 9/11 Kirby Just Started Testing Need Help With Dosing
