Low carb / high protein dry food

My 11yr old male cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes last month. I am looking for a low carb / high protein dry cat food that's not gonna break the bank. I have 3 other healthy cats so I would love if it's a food that's also good for them but if I have to feed him separately I can since I work from home. Prior to his diagnosis I've been feeding him Purina One Indoor Advantage
 
Hi Alexis, to answer your question, the two lower carb dry foods this group talks about are the Young Again and Dr. Elsey’s.

One of the moderators here sent me this link when I started here, maybe it will be helpful for you. It’s written by a vet who is seemingly pretty involved in feline nutrition. They go on to talk about kidney and urinary issues with dry versus wet food as well as moisture content.

If you can feed your diabetic mostly low carb canned food, that would be best. If he gets into other cat's low carb dry food, no worries. There may or may not be a small spike in blood glucose levels. Some diabetics are carb sensitive. Is it possible to feed all the cats canned food with a small amount of dry food? There are members here who have multiple cats and feed mostly or only canned food without going broke.

There are microchip feeders you can use to keep the diabetic out of the dry food if you typically leave it out all day. The non-diabetics would have to wear a microchip collar tag that opens the feeder.

Can you tell us more about your diabetic? What insulin is your cat on, what is the current dose, any other health issues, do you test blood glucose levels at home, etc?
 
In addition to the dry food that Tim mentioned, Stella & Chewy's has freeze dried raw food and ZiwiPeak has a line of air dried raw food. They may also be alternatives.
