Hello,

Could someone please take a look at my spreadsheet and recommend a morning dose for 8/29/21 ? Lion has been "bouncing" since he was moved up to 2.25, which I have now reduced.

@Wendy&Neko - if you could also take a look I'd appreciate it.

Thank you!

First post which I think will give you more information about how she's been lowering the units

Can you please take a look at Susans SS, there's not much there yet
Thank you
I see she said
He is on Friskies Pate that is sometimes sprinkled with Young Again Zero for mature cats.

I think your 1.75u dose is too high. If yo9u are not able to shoot your PM shote because youer PMPS is too low, you need to lower the dose so you can shoot twice a day. In addition, if y our are following Start Low Go Slow, you reduce the dose if numbers drop below 90, which they did yesterday.

I'd be thinking about a dost of 1.25u.

Thank you everyone!

I gave him 1.25 this morning.

I didn’t add the numbers to the chart as in the past I was sometimes using Pet Buddy and sometimes using Relion Micro so I think it would be confusing and not make much sense. I only conducted two curves 7/28 and 8/12 (I now have FreeStyle and will do better) Generally:

1 unit: 7/10/21 to 7/15/21.

1.50 unit: 7/16/21 to 7/28/21

1.75 unit: 7/29/21 to 8/5/21

2. unit: 8/6/21 to 8/13/21

2.25 unit: 8/14/21 to 8/26/21.

He started bouncing on as soon as I moved to 2.25.

Can you please tell me when the higher levels of insulin will have left his system?

Thank you everyone for your help!!

With Lantus, it can take roughly 3 days for some cats to respond to a change in dose. However, this is variable depending on the cat. Some cats will metabolize their insulin dose faster or slower than others and this affects the depot. Also, if you are hoping to use the information to predict how your cat will respond to a dose change, it's hard to make those kind of predictions. Cats like to be unpredictable! As soon as. you think you know how they will react, they make sure to keep you on your toes.

It would be good to see any data you have from the most recent dose.

You make it sound like bouncing is a bad thing, it's not. It's very common and a reaction to the cat seeing numbers they aren't used to. In an unregulated cat, as newly diagnosed cats are, this is very common. And it's also a sign that the insulin is finally working at bringing their numbers down. We don't reduce the dose if the cat is bouncing, but we do reduce the dose if the insulin dose brought their blood sugars below a certain level, which is 90 if you are following SLGS for dosing.

Thank you Sienne

Wendy - I did think bouncing was a bad thing. I think the correct dose was probably 1.75 or 2.00 and I feel badly I moved him up to 2.25.

I know we don’t have a lot of data yet, but on 8/28/21 he did not go below 90, but I was unable to shoot his PM shot. I would think that’s a problem?

We can only guess on dosing without seeing the data. Entering any data you have, including yesterdays, will help us immensely. We are all data nerds here and have gotten used to looking at data in spreadsheets to help people with dosing.

Sorry, it was in between 8/27 and 8/01, so not where I expected. Unless that 8/01 was a typo.

I also agree with Sienne that if you cannot shoot twice a day because the preshots are too low for you to comfortably shoot yet, you should lower the dose so you can get two shots in a day.
