Zeus’ Mom

Hello everyone,

I’m so overwhelmed, so anxious, so exhausted of all the food research.

Zeus was diagnosed a month ago because of DKA.

Recently, he was hospitalized with pancreatitis.

I’m based in Europe and he has been eating Animonda Carny (from the UK approved list).

During both of his hospitalizations, the vets had him on purina diabetic wet food and both times his stool has been the best I’ve ever seen.

From research, it seems as though all prescribed diabetic food has low fat, which is what I’ve been told to give him for the pancreatitis.

The problem is that purina diabetic cans are expensive and I can only buy them individually in my area.

what do I do?

I am not sure what brands you have there, but usually pate flavors are lower in carbs than any types with gravy in them. Another option is to make your own food. I have a cat with IBD and use this recipe. I buy the supplements from Amazon and use powdered egg instead of fresh. If you decide to use cooked meat instead of raw, then cook the meat before adding the supplements and use the cooking juice to mix everything together.

Welcome to FDMB.

I'm linking our Primer on Pancreatitis. It may take some of the mystery out of managing diabetes and pancreatitis. One thing to note is that a low fat, high fiber diet is not longer considered essential.

When I had difficulty tracking down food during Covid, I got in touch with the manufacturer. I'd see if Purina can advise you on where to get their food. Amazon may be a possibility.
