Need help measuring for syringe feeding

Hello!

My cat Stormy was just discharged from the emergency hospital today after being there since Saturday. He is newly diagnosed diabetic and he had pancreatitis. The internal medicine specialist told me if he’s not eating, to syringe feed him 20mL twice a day.
My question is this: how much pate food is 20mL??? Someone has told me that 5mL is one teaspoon but then you have to mix it with water to syringe feed so they said it’s actually like 5mL = half a teaspoon. I am just confused and I need some help figuring out how much pate food to mix in my blender with water to equal 20mL... I hope that makes sense. I don’t want to call the emergency place and ask because I’ve already called like four times since he’s been discharged LOL and I don't know if they'd be able to answer my question because I'm not really sure how to even ask it.

 

Okay nevermind I can't figure out how to delete this post LOL but I called the emergency vet. She basically just said to put some food and water into blender and make it a slurry consistency. So I think I'm just WAY over-thinking this.

 

20ml is 1.4 tablespoons. I tablespoon is about 15ml.
A standard 5.5oz can is about 162ml.
40ml a day is really not enough. Rule of thumb is average cats needs one 5.5oz can daily.
At first I wouod try 20ml food per hour. If you water down, the volume wouod be greater but has to be 20ml of actual food.

 

Oh okay that is very helpful, thank you. I might start feeding him 20mL three or four times a day until he (hopefully) starts to eat on his own. I know in the hospital they were doing it four times a day.

Edit: just saw you said to do 20mL an hour. I will try feeding him way more often and see how he does. Thank you!
