? PMPS 237, seems off

Hi all,
When I got home from work today, Nico was a little off. Didn't come to greet me. I checked the auto feeder, and it looks like he never touched any of the wet food today. Did PMPS, 237, then threw up liquid. I think maybe he dipped today, and didn't eat, so the throw up might be stomach acid? Tested ketones, none. Took temp, 100.1. just watched him pee (normal) and drink some water. Gave him some Cerenia and Mirtaz to help, hoping it kicks in soon.
He did eat some treats, is purring when I pet him, and flicks his tail in the air. But just seems a little off.
Should I be worried, or is this par for the course?

Temperature normal, no ketones is good. Hopefully the Cerenia and Mirataz will help. We can’t know what is making him feel off. Keep an eye on him. Why do you have Cerenia and Mirataz on hand? Has he had pancreatitis in the past? Or another condition that causes nausea? Of course, I have a lot of cats and always keep Cerenia, Ondansetron, and Mirtazapine and other meds on hand all the time- but I just thought I would ask. I didn’t see any other conditions mentioned on your signature.

Thanks!! I am keeping an eye on him tonight. He's finally came upstairs and is on the bed with me, and he took a few lickable treats.

We're not sure if he actually has pancreatitis, but he has gotten sick less than a few handful of times in the past two years, only for a day or two. The last time it happened my vet gave me extra Cerenia and Mirtaz just for situations like this since getting into vet clinics is tough lately. She mentioned it's possible he could have pancreatitis flare ups, but each time it happens by the time we get labwork he's better. Ugh, just can't seem to catch it with labs.
He also had a UTI a while back, but after starting d-mannose he's doing very well. I test his pee for that regularly as well. His test this afternoon was clear for that too. I'm just stumped.
I sure wish they could talk sometimes, would make this a whole lot easier! Lol

D-mannose can help with urinary tract infections that are caused by E coli. But there are many other organisms that cause urinary tract infections. Did the vet culture the urine at a laboratory and find the exact bacteria? Or did he/she prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic? D-mannose is more of a preventative supplement that helps keep E coli from adhering to the urinary tract.

She wasn't able to have a culture done, but did prescribe clavamox for 14 days. She tested his urine again after two more weeks to make sure there was no evidence of an infection left.
But I am wondering if he might have Flutd, we'll be checking some of his values during his next blood work up.

Well, I have no idea what that was yesterday into last night - by this morning, he came to me at breakfast time and asked for food! Glucose was down, and he got his appetite back. ?? Who knows!!

Sounds like a good plan.

Ugh, well this afternoon he got sick again. A few times. And then his sugar sky rocketed. I took him to the vet, and they formally diagnosed with FLUTD. We got sent home with some pain medication/anti-inflammatory as he had some inflammation in his bladder. Hopefully this helps! He didn't want to eat earlier, but at least he took a lickable treat just a few moments ago.

I am glad he was diagnosed. It was really sounding like FLUTD. What kind of anti inflammatory did they give you?

The anti inflammatory they prescribed was onsior. I've been trying to read up on posts about this. I know overall it's not great for the kidneys, but it seems to have helped tremendously. I'm on the fence tbh, as I don't want the flare up to continue but want to take it easy on his system too.

I understand. Don’t give Onsior for more than 3 days. Hopefully, that’s all they gave you. You will want to investigate other supplement options for the urinary tract inflammation. Cosequin is one. Some people have good results with corn silk tea.

Yes, the vet did caution me about onsior, and only taking it for three days max. I did see a lot of posts mention corn silk, so I purchased that last night. And I do have Cosequin for my older cat, so I can start him on that as well. I agree, anything that can help him but with the least side effects or complications!

:bighug: If I find any helpful information, I will post it to you.

@Suzanne & Darcy

Does anyone else find d-mannose makes your cat's BG higher? Also could you guys let me know brands used? I tried one but it made my girl higher. She gets UTIs often and they are 99.9% of the time caused by ecoli.

I have only used the NOW brand in capsules (dumped them out of the capsule to give to cat.). There are many quality brands out there - Jarrow is one that I trust. I have never seen anyone mention higher BG with d-mannose. @carfurby you use d-mannose, don’t you? Have you ever noticed numbers with it?

Oops, sorry we are hijacking your thread @BellaBlue82 but you also have experience with d-mannose.
Lol, no worries! The D-mannose doesn't seem to make Nico's sugar higher, and I use the NOW brand powder as well.
I have been giving Nico that, corn silk (alcohol free) and Cosequin. He was doing great the past few days with Onsior, but now that we stopped his sugar is going up again. He is on Clavamox as well ( just a precaution for 5 days since he had a low fever) so I don't know if it's that, or being off the anti inflammatory?? Ugh this poor guy can't catch a break lately.
