I have seen several folks post about having trouble with the Relion lancet device....well after testing Maxwell for over a year and a half and Musette for over 6 months, I think I have figured out what might be the problem.

With both my diabetics I have always used the lancing device that came with Maxwell's Relion Micro because it makes very little sound and didn't seem to upset him or Musette having it clicked near their heads..But I have never used the actual Relion lancets in it. I've always used the Bayer lancets in my Relion lancing device, well the other day I went to get more lancets and Walmart was out of the ones that I normally use, so I picked up a box of the Relion ones for alternate testing sites.

Now even with all my months of testing not one but two diabetic cats it was taking me 3-4 or more pokes to get blood and then about 75% of the time it wasn't enough for the meter to read. Now I know I can literally roll over in bed, grab the test kit, test Musette and go right back to sleep, so for the life of me I couldn't figure out why I now couldn't get a decent drop of blood to save myself. So after a week of struggling with these lancets I went out got another box of the Bayer lancets, first tried yet another one of the Relion Lancets to no avail, then immediately switched it out for one of my normal bayer lancets. First attempt a beautiful drop of blood forms.

So I have to believe that it isn't the lancing device that is faulty with the Relion meter it is the matching lancets that don't work with it. Since then I have switched backand forth just to check, and I can't get the Relion lancets to work in the device for love nor money but with the Bayer lancets it works perfectly. The other thing is that I noticed that even though the Relion lancets are suppose to be made to work with that device they fit very loosely in the device, while the Bayer ones fit snuggly. Both worked fine on my own finger, just not on a cat's ear.

So if you are having problems with a Relion lancing device and using the lancets of the same brand I would suggest trying a different brand of lancets and see if you get the same results that I did. And I would love to here the results if you do decide to try this and get the same better results that I got by simply switching the brand of lancet that you used in a Relion lancing device.

Thanks a lot for the trick. I'll give it a shot. I think I have a few types of lancets here. One of them didn't work when I tried but another might. I started using the lancet without the top but sometimes it goes too deep that way so went back to my old one from freestyle. My Relion lancets fit tight but still don't work. I think they're too short and the tip is too long. I'm definitely going to do as you suggested though.

Were you trying the beige lancets or the multi-colored ones? I have a Relion lancing pen that came with the Micron when I bought it. I actually really like it and haven't had any trouble with it. I use the multi-colored ultra fine lancets but I think there are a few different kinds. I have to make sure that I don't have it set to poke the farthest length though. I poked all the way thru poor Ru's ears a couple of times before I realized that.

When I got my AlphaTrak, it also came with a lancing pen but it's noisy. It makes a loud "SPROING" noise. I tried using the Alpha lancets in the Relion pen and they're too short to get a good stick.
