Chris would welcome some feel better/healing vines. He hasn't been feeling the best lately, drinking a lot of water and not too energetic. Yesterday he puked 4 piles in the AM, pooped on the floor by the LB sometime in the afternoon/evening, was very lethargic and wasn't eating in the evening. I tested him and he was 177 so off to the e-vet he went.
His urinalysis didn't shoe anything remarkable, some protein in his urine and one other thing that I can't remember. No sugars, no ketones.
His temp was over 104.
His blood work showed WBC over 49K when it should be under 17K. There were a few other numbers off that indicated there could be some inflammation/infection going on and dehydration though his BUN was low not high.
The WBC was high enough that the vet felt hospitalization with IV fluids was in order for 18-24hrs. He got cerenia, a couple ABs, and some bupe. They are going to culture his urine to see if there is an infection that just didn't show and if it is resistant to any ABs they used.
He was transferred to our vets office today (our e-clinic is only open when the normal vets are closed) to continue the IV fluids. The vet there wanted to do an xray of his abdomen. He ate pretty good this morning the tech said so he seems to be doing better, he definitely acted more alert, and hopefully he can come home this afternoon and not back to the e-vet tonight!

 

You got it, Melanie. Lots and lots and lots of vines for Chris Farley. Polly was hospitalized for two days and nights over a year ago. Fever, high WBC. Mystery ailment. After the iv fluids, a/b drip. Fine and dandy and came home.

P-titis was our and the e-vets first concern. The snap test came back normal, but he still believed it to be a concern.

Xrays today have revealed a mass in his abdomen More xrays and a radiology consult to find out what is going on.

I am working from my phone because we don't have the office n computer moved to the new house yet but it think I got pics of his BW attached.

 

I'm so sorry to hear ChrisFarley isn't doing so well, adding another truckload of vines for him.

 

Chris is home and has his appy back, which is good. But he definitely isn't feeling good, mostly laying on the floor between the food dish and water bowl.
Radiology reports weren't back by the end of day at the vets so no answer until tomorrow. We didn't even see a vet when we got him so didn't get to see or discuss the xrays. They were short staffed and we had to make the pharmacy so we just took Chris n left.

Thanks for all the well wishes. The mass looks pretty large and appears to be in his intestines. At this point his lungs are clear and the mass is not blocking anything, the xray showed gas passing through it.
We are about a half hour from checking in to Blue Pearl with him. Hopefully they will be able to do the exploratory surgery yet tonight. If its removable they will take it out right then. One of our vets is a great soft tissue surgeon, but after losing one cat to anesthesia, we needed to go the specialist route and make sure Chris has a placed equipped for everything.
Lets hope by tomorrow he is on his road to recovery.
The beginning of the trip he seemed to feel the best in days. Purring, cuddling, talking, tail waving like a flag when you scratched his butt. I saw my boy again

Chris has went in for surgery.
Our vet neglected to mention that it looked like there is gas or fluid outside Chris's intestines, thus the speed on which Blue Pearl got him in. Praying we don't hear from the doctor for a good hour. If he can remove it, it should take that long. If there are complications we will hear sooner.

Sorry the update is slow, phone battery low and mom and dad hadn't eaten all day.

Chris's surgery was successful. They got the mass and re-sected his intestines. It was a tight ball and not into anything around it. There was a lot of local inflammation and his lymph nodes were enlarged. 3-5 days to see how well he heals and make sure he doesn't leak. 5-7 days on the results of the biopsy from the lymph nodes and the mass.
Major relief on the first step. Now healing.

 

*whew* doing the happy dance that they were able to get it all and that it wasn't invasive. Sending healing vines to our sweet little buddy.

 

Oh Thank God!!!!!Thanks for the update- continuing prayers and vines-I hope you can sleep tonight, and thank goodness you don't have any diabetic cats to worry about at home. Hugs and scritches to all of your crew and hugs to you!

We haven't gotten an update yet this morning, getting ready to head over there now. Last night when we checked on him, he was awake and moving about his kennel a little, so good sign!

 

The update from the surgeon this morning was excellent. He was talking, walking around, eating well. Little drainage so a good sign he is healing well. Should go home tomorrow.

We just left from visiting him. He was quite his usual goofy self. Ran around the room, talked away. Then you could tell he got tired and flopped over and started to snore.
We'd forgot to discuss food last night so he was getting kibble and Whiskas with gravy :O We left his food for him and told her no more kibble.
Heading home to do meds on our other cats (haven't gotten keys to that sitter for the new house). Hate being that far away, but he needs to rest so we might as well take care of the other kits.

ChrisFarley is on his way home! It's my birthday and I couldn't think of a better WA to celebrate.
His drainage tube came out yesterday because everything looked good. He is down to just a cone to keep him off of his incision.
He looks so much better. His eyes a wide and bright, not squinting in pain. They said he was pottying well. He started the road trip with an attempt at a bath in the carrier. No playing for 2 weeks, but I bet he'd be game. I forgot my purse at home after our "quick" trip home yesterday to see the other kids and do meds, so no meter to see if his BGs are recovering with the infection and mass out.
Pathology results will be back next week.

Chris is so happy to be back on his couch. Not going to be too impressed when he has to go into a room with his cone back on for bedtime.
I tested him a little while ago and he was 106 Hopefully BGs were just up from the infection... and to warn mom something was wrong!

Great news . Sending lots of speedy recovery vine that all is well now.

 

Chris is back spending the day at the vets office He woke me up before 4 yelling up a storm in his room. He seemed agitated, unable to get comfortable, and vomited a couple times this morning. He's vomited a few more times at the vets.

His xrays look ok to both the local vet and his surgeon and the surgeon thinks we are past the peritonitis stage of the surgery, which the vomiting was the big alarm bell for. His temp is good so that is a relief, it was high the whole time prior to surgery. His BG checks have been 106, 109, 116 the last few days. So creeping, but pretty much the same.

He is getting IV fluids and we will stop the clavamox, was giving him diarrhea. If he is still vomiting at the end of day and they decide to transfer him to the e-vet to get IV fluids into the evening/night, they will order an ultra-sound and have his stomach checked out more thoroughly.

His pathology results and the cultures on his stomach infection should be back tomorrow Dr Yu thought. Maybe we can get an antibiotic that will work better for him off of the results of the culture and praying those pathology results are good news. My boy deserves a break.
