I'm so out of the loop, have been away from actual diabetes for long time. tom's muscle mass looked like it was shrinking (he's built like a linebacker-all muscle) not drinking xcessively but i put water in his ff.
last night i tested first time in forever...7 hours since feeding 122. ok, not freaking out but....this am 3 hours after breakfast 207! nailbite_smile
i'm scared like a newbie, don't even know where to begin...and i don't have his old profile, just generally really nervous here.

Lori...first thing first...have you made sure your strips are still good? Do you have testing solution to double check?
Then I would rule out a possible infection...how does his mouth look?
I hope it's the strips, but let us know okay.

Agreed with Jill, Lori. When Oliver's bg levels went back up, he had other medical problems. Not always the case, but vet visit is probably a good idea to rule other things out. I am assuming there is no chance he got into any dry/people food?

    thanks,

jill the strips are good, his teeth are not great but he's been extremely hungry lately and appeared to be losing weight....i'm thankful you responded jill----this board is not very clear to me. i guess he has to go to the vet, i can't get his teeth extracted now, $500 minimum and i'm getting ready for my own pt/ct scan this friday.
    too much all at once....
i have been lax and allowed an occasional very small treat of kibble. and a few sips of my cereal milk. i thought it was ok

Not sure about the pzi. I would take him in for an exam and a full blood panel, get kidneys and thyroid checked.
Sorry you have to deal with this...Tom knows you love him and will take care of him the best you can.

yep, to the vet he goes :)

if he needs to go back on insulin for a bit lori and you are comfortable with pzi, i could share some with you. just get hold of me when you find out and let me know.

eta: just remembered, here in the last couple months my vet said they got a couple vials in just in case they had anyone that needed to still get their hands on some. so if need be i bet you could get your hands on that too if they still have it. we'll figure something out :)

thanks cindy....how do i know which came first the chicken or the egg? i know he needs a dental but maybe this is not dental related. he would need the type of dental where they put him under and extract and it's too expensive for us. he has been doing sooooo well, really showing nothing but excellent health. noticing his muscle mass just occurred to me last night, and the extra hunger, about less than a week.
ok, just retested, 148 5 hours after breakfast. that is self come down but we are accustomed to #'s between 65 and 80.

has he been out last night or this morning? maybe he got into something outside that brought it up? if so maybe give it a day or so to see if it comes back down where it should be?

cindy i'm the one...i've been giving him occassional kibble treats. a very small amount every couple of days. just maybe 10 small kibbles. what was i thinking??????????? and he neer leaves the yard anymore and has'nt been out since about 4pm yesterday.
i would get out the bag to tell you the name of it (good stuff from wilds) but if he heard the bag he would drive me crazy till he got his snack. i've used it to lure him in before dark.

I'd stop the treats, go back to strict canned low carb. When you can afford the vet visit, you need to do that. As others mentioned, could be teeth, could be something else going. With Tucker, a high BG means a stuck hair ball, a belly ache, even dentals in the past. When his numbers are low and steady, there's nothing brewing in the background.

gosh nobody's profile is up (including mine)
is tucker otj? and i will definetly stop the treats altho i really can't believe the small amount given has cuased this. i'm much more inclined to think it's illness of some sort. i just realize it must have been awhile since i notice weight loss and the hungries. i would be calmer if i had a vile of pzi and a couple viles of new strips....just in case. i'm watching tom like "the dear mom" letter we used to pass around back then. i am so over analyzing his every gesture and appearance change....oh boy, and i'm home sick as i have been for the better part of the winter. way too much time to obsess.

ok, his pre dinner # is 163.
i feel so emotional and tired.... i have to get the pzi, just like a junkie, can't watch these #'s go as high as 207. now i realize he's been waking me up starving, sitting at his bowl all day, losing weight....where the #$%^ have i been not to see this sooner?????
i know tom's not the first to have this happen, i did'nt know i'd fall apart if it did. i just am struggeling as it is with my other health issues at the moment (pt/ct scan and special heart dr. appt) and once again afraid i can't do it all.
been home sick all week, gotta go to work tomorow, friday we could go to vet but i keep changing vets. gotta call the last vet and have them send over the labs and xrays they took. they were just too impersonal and also did'nt want to do the dental since he's pre asmatic...they thought we should go to a specialist.
and it's the 4th quarter tax time!
    next?
