Good Morning, Everyone,

Well, no one got much sleep last night: we had a very hungry and confused kitty to try to comfort. Rusty, who is a grazer, had nothing to graze on. Fortunately he ate almost all of his dinner by 8 p.m. last evening. Then he hosted the film group and paid two of our friends the greatest compliment by sitting on their laps. Then it was bedtime and he couldn't believe that there was no food set out for him. He came to bed and immediately hacked up a hairball (he'd been grooming himself all evening).
This morning there was more disbelief at the absence of breakfast!

We dropped Rusty and his breakfast off at the vet at 8 a.m. (+1.5) after giving him a reduced dose, about half of his normal dose. He will have a full blood panel and the special test for bile acid (which required the 12-hour fast). After they draw blood, he gets to eat breakfast. Then, two hours later, he has blood drawn again. So the bile acid before eating is compared with what it is after eating. They will keep him there for a few hours and we will have a consult with the vet when we go to pick him up.

Good thoughts and vines for the LagoonMeister are much appreciated!:cat::D

Awwwwwww Rusty you be eating soon and home before you know it. Then it will be all like it was a bad dream. I'll be thinking of you today.

I hope the beans felt suitably honoured, how nice of him to share his favours around :)

Lots of good vetty vines and thoughts for the big guy and for you. Hopefully it goes quick and he can finally eat. Geez mom. Will be watching for an update. Have a great day Ella!

Good thoughts and vines coming your way. Hopefully the results are favorable. I always dislike the fasting part of the vet visit..its hard not feeding when they want to eat, but cant.

poor rusty - no fuds and no idea why not! he'll be so happy to be back home again that hopefully, he'll forgive you without making you suffer first. ;)

we'll be watching for your update - i hope it's all good news. :bighug:

Sending good vetty vines and I hope he has gotten his breffis by now! Poor boy!

Oooooooooo, Rusty! No fuds??!!!!! What was the beans thinking? I'll gather up KTSS and we will be there when you gets home. I has a fresh batch of Catmint Crisps and Tobes is baking Cimmamum cookies ! We will all keep an eye on the Lagoon while you recove from the ordeal. -- Tess

Sending good vetty vines for Rusty. It is so hard to not feed them. I wish we could explain things and they would understand.

Hi again,
So according to the IDEXX Labs SNAPshot Dx, Rusty is "normal". Preprandial (fasting) bile acids were <5 umol/L. Postprandial were 9 umol/L. Any number below 12 is "normal; consistent with sufficient hepatic function".
All of his values on the IDEXX Catalyst Dx were again in normal range except for GGT. And that had gone up a point from 3 to 4. The vet wants us to have the ultrasound and a consult with an IM specialist in whom she has great confidence. So we scheduled it for 19 Feb. at the Peak Veterinary Referral Center in Williston, VT (near Burlington, about a 2-hour drive/ferry from here).

Meanwhile, Rusty is very happy to be home and is relaxing in his perch above the radiator. He is glad the KTSS is coming to help get the vetty smell off!

Edward and I are off to the post office and to walk around Moody Pond. bbl, Thank you all for your vines and good wishes.

I'm so glad the reports were mostly good. Lucky to get them so fast. I know you'll be :nailbiting: waiting for the US appt, and then the results. Advance vines coming your way!

I just hate it when I have to fast one of my cats - they look so confused and I feel terrible!

That is good news with the normal. I hope the ultrasound with the IM specialist gives you some answers. Feb 19 seems a long ways away. Have a great night!!

I'm glad the results were normal. I hope the US is too or at least sheds light on what the problem is.

Ella, I am so relieved to hear Rusty is home safely and getting that yuk vet smell off of him!! :bighug::bighug: That is so awesome that you got the test results so quickly-that sure beats the heck out of waiting for days!!! :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting: So now I am sending comfort vines while you wait for the Ultrasound, glad to hear Rusty is eating again, that's a relief! Please give him some big hugs and scritches from us!

A ferry! That is going for an ultrasound in style. We will be keeping paws and whiskers crossed until February, that seems like so long to wait.:nailbiting:

KTSS is on it's way! Good to hear Rusty's results all look good so far. Have a good evening Ella. I'm sure Rusty will want lots of snacks tonight.

Good news, but it would have been nice to get some answers. I hope the ultrasound will give some good answers. , i.e. nothing too serious.

They's gonna shaves you??!!!!! RUUUUNNNNNNNNNN

I'm glad all went well today with Rusty's test today, and sending tons of vines that the US report will help solve the mystery yet be "unremarkable" at the same time.

Have a great evening. Ella!

Thanks everyone. I scheduled the U/S for mid February because the weather is traditionally not as cold in Feb. Rusty's belly will have to be shaved. The vet didn't think that this is something that has to be done "tomorrow".

We are saddened tonight by the passing of Cobb, Booger, and Tiki. Sending love and sympathy to Suzanne, Jen, and Tonya.

Hold your kitties close.

Hi Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Sorry to have missed you yesterday. I am glad that the test(s) came back normal. I too think it is a good idea to follow through with the U/S. it can't hurt to have it done, if only for peace of mind. And Rusty.... don't worry! Mannie had many a US done, and he always said they were a piece of cake, shaved bellies are cool, and then you get all that attention and pets and scritches. All will be well. Elsa found Mannie's chicken soup recipe, has the KTSS on alert, and will be there this AM to make sure the vetty smell is all gone.

Have a great day Ella!
