Rusty had a good night after vomiting the Merrick's chicken pate (from a new 5.5 oz. can). I'm heading to Potsdam this morning to get him fuds at the Agway. I had planned to get more Merrick, but will check the dates on the cans carefully. bbl,

A successful (I hope) shopping trip. And Rusty showed no signs of upset stomach this morning (he got Wellness chicken and Dave's 95% turkey & turkey liver for breakfast and ate it all; I hope it was just a scarf 'n barf yesterday).

At the Potsdam Agway I got a few more cans of Merrick chicken paté, a couple of cans of Merrick turkey paté to try out, some cans of Wellness Core Turkey & Duck (which he likes), some Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken (which he enjoys at bedtime as a treat), 1 can--to try out--of Weruva TruLxe Quick 'n Quirky chicken & turkey in gravy (grain and carrageenan free; has anyone fed this food?), and some Dave's Turkey & Giblets, and Dave's Chicken Formula. I was delighted to see that they now carry the whole line of Dave's (but, of course, they had everything except the 95% Chicken & Chicken Liver, which is Rusty's favorite and has been out of stock everywhere).
I got a bag of WholeLife f/d turkey treats and a bag of WholeLife f/d chicken treats. And then I saw that they now carry Orijin freeze dried treats, so I splurged and got a bag of Wild Boar and a bag of Farmed, free-range Lamb.
@Linda and Bear Man : Did you know that Orijin Foods are made in Oakville ON of all-Canadian sourced meats (and fish)? Too bad that their foods are all dry kibble (no cans), but the treats are freeze dried. I wonder if Pinky would like them. I'm going to try them on Rusty this afternoon.

Lucky you to have all of the Dave's food available at a store (except the elusive chicken & chicken liver). The only store I've found around here that carries them has a limited selection and none of the 95% flavors. I just don't want to order a case until I know the kits will eat it. Lately they haven't been so keen on their Dave's, but I think they're just mimicking Minka's chemo pickiness (kitty see, kitty do!).

Hi Ella,

You piqued my interest with your comment. I wasn't familiar with the Orijen plant (or "kitchen" as they prefer to call it on their website) in town, so I stopped into a pet food store today to find their address on the bag. I Googled the address (579 Speers Rd. Oakville) and found that it belongs to Freeze-Dry Foods, which has been in business for 50 years producing freeze dried foods for humans - mostly for soups and sauces, but also for hikers). It appears that Champion (the maker of Orijen) purchased the company a few years ago, and it now goes by "Champion Freeze-Dry LP".

The building, as viewed on Google Maps, doesn't bring to mind visions of free range Alberta bison, but I guess it's still a step in the right direction. The store I was at today only carried the dog treats, but I will keep an eye out for the cat treats. I see on the website that the treats also include organ meat in addition to muscle meat, whereas the Pure Bites that I give Pinky contain only muscle meat. I will be interested in what you think about the appearance of the treats, and also what Rusty thinks of them. I'm sure he will be excited to try the Wild Boar!

I'm glad Rusty kept his food down today. I hope he likes the food you bought.

Rusty spent his afternoon snoozing in his little bed by the radiator and surpervising the surfing in the lagoon.

@Linda and Bear Man : I gave Rusty 4 wild-boar treats this afternoon. He sniffed at them at first, but later ate them all. They are like smooth, oblong pellets, quite small, about the size of a small gelcap. You certainly don't have to cut them up, like you do the WholeLife treats. Thanks for correcting my spelling of Orijen!!

What a nice cycle for Rusty, and sure glad to hear Rusty feels better today-- finger crossed this is not pancreatitis. We tested out Weruva Paw Lickin Chickn and a few others, my only problem is Tiger prefers a pate. I put them in my Cuisinart but what a mess!

I haven't fed that particular Weruva but just check the calories. Many of them are really low in calories.

Lovely lagoon cycle this morning and a successful shopping trip - that's a good day.

I've fed the Orijen treats for quite a while now. I think Dyana gets the dog sized packages. Neko and Theo love the Tundra, but of course it has fish so no go for Rusty. The lamb and wild boar are one of the few unique protein freeze dried treats readily available. So far all of the flavours have been snapped up here. And I like that they are Canadian.
