Good Morning, Everyone,

This Memorial Day we are remembering our friends who died in Viet Nam. I am sorry that Memorial Day has been incorporated into a 3-day weekend. It used to always be on May 31st and it seems that it meant more then and that it had the same sort of "feeling" that Armistice/Veterans Day does. They'll never change the date of that one!

Rusty had a good night and ate all his nighttime food. He knows we'll be out most of the day today and has retired to his little bed to wait it out. The weather forecast is for showers and warm. This will not affect our paddle or the picnic later.

Wishing all a good day.

And a good day to you, too. Have a nice snooze, Rusty, while the beans are paddling and picnicking.

I agree about the date for Memorial Day. Remember as a kid hauling my trumpet around to all the country cemeteries around my hometown to play Taps at all the ceremonies. Very reverent. Then.

I think being out w/ friends and remembering those who aren't among us is a great way to celebrate the day. It seems like for most it is just another excuse for a big sale.

Nice start for Rusty this morning. I hope he surfs while you're out. For most it is just another day off. That's sad.

Look at you Rusty, all blue so the beans can have a nice day without worry!

I know what you mean about the holiday. I feel that way about President's day/s too. Let's keep the dates the same (helps my poor memory) so we focus on the meaning and then make some three day long weekends during the year, just because we need a break! Or better yet, let's name some after the holidays on our FDMB calendar, like Black Cat weekend or Spay and Neuter holiday.

Enjoy the paddle, we had warm and drizzle this morning too. Just means the water is flatter. :) It's a day to relax Rusty.

I so agree on the three day holidays being just an excuse and losing their meaning. So glad they haven't touched Remembrance Day here. @pollydoodle - I love the sound of Taps on trumpet, brings chills to the spine.

Hi Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Looking good Rusty. You surf well today, and remember to eat your fuds.

Enjoy your paddle. It all sounds like such fun, and an awesome way to spend a holiday. I too feel the same on the date for Memorial day. Wish they had never changed it.

Have a great day!

We had a great day, with only drizzle--the rain held off until this evening. The bugs were pretty bad, however, since there was hardly any wind. Rusty had a good day and ate all of his food. We stopped in at the house after the paddle to pick up our contribution of food for the picnic and Rusty had a good schmooze with 2 of our friends. He is such a good host (they got here before we did, so he "entertained" them).
The picnic supper was great fun.

@pollydoodle : My elementary school band, and, later, my high school band marched in a different town each Memorial Day because the schools were in central districts. We took our responsibilities very seriously and--in high school-- didn't horse around the way we did at football games. We had a very good trumpet player who played taps on a bugle.

We are off to camp tomorrow, after lunch. Lots to do in the morning.

Looks like Rusty had a great day!! Stayed nice and safe on shore while you were out paddling and got to entertain visitors until you got home too! Good boy Rusty!!

Have a great time at Camp tomorrow!!

Nice, mellow numbers today, Rusty. It's good to be the chief LagoonMeister and take the holiday off, isn't it? Your deputies were on duty, so all is well in the lagoon as it awaits your return.

Safe trip tomorrow to camp. Are you just going for the day or to stay for a while?
