Yesterday, no more straws to grasp at, it really is Neko's kidneys. Thanks to all of you for your visits. :bighug:

Not a great start, probably still bouncing and I suspect I may have to sneak the dose back up. There really isn't much insulin going into her. But I will wait for a clearer sign on this dose. I hate seeing her above renal threshold, but hate the lows even more. Neko always has had a bouncy flair.

Neko is eating the Royal Canin Recovery fairly well. She picked at a couple of Wellness option first thing, though did a good number on them when we got up for rowing. Side note, yes we got about 500 meters of rowing in before we made it to the edge of the cove and got blasted by the wind. Short row. Anyway, back to Neko. She got a parcel today and yes more types of fuds to try. Thanks Auntie @rhiannon and shadow (GA) :bighug:

Today I pick up a bag of fluids to try that again. And I have to closely monitor her resting respiration rate.:nailbiting::nailbiting:

My heart is with Elise today.:( Balancing the heart and kidneys is tough.

Wendy, sorry to hear this. I never dealt with kidney issues. I can only imagine how hard it is to manage yet another dx.

At least you got out on the water, even if it didn't last long. I hope Neko likes the new fuds. Sending prayers.

My cat Snickers had kidney disease. But only kidney disease; no CRF or FD or any number of other illnesses.
I have no words of advice as to how to manage it.
Lots of vines to Neko and hugs to you! You are a wonderful Bean to Neko! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Wendy, just checking in on everyone today. :-( I'm sorry about Neko's kidneys. Managing FD is rough. Another disease is tougher. I hope she comes down for you and you won't have to follow through on your threat to increase.

Neko, please keep eating your fuds. You have more options now, so take advantage! What a lucky girl you are.

Wendy, is the predicted storm hitting you yet? I'm seeing lots of talk about the winds on the chat on Tiny Kittens. Hope you stay safe and don't have any damage.

Sending loads of vines, prayers and :bighug:s.

We are in what is supposed to be storm #2. "storm" #1 was just a regular rainy night. Storm #3 is later tomorrow and supposed to the "big" one with higher winds. Tree tops are waving here, probably enough that someone somewhere is without power. Of course, tomorrow being the big storm day is the day that Tiny Kittens is doing their monster TNR round up.

I'm sorry to hear this. But as long as Neko's heart is stable, CKD is very manageable. It's just a lot of work. The biggest job I've always had is keeping mine eating.

At any rate, many hugs to you and to Neko.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm with Ella. You and your Neko are a great team. Yes, you'll face some windy conditions with her, too, but you will hunker in the cove and keep her safe and stable and happy. Neko, do your part. Eat. More. Please.

Hunker down. Your weather even made our local news tonight.

Well, that was a fun day. Went down across the border to pick up my strips supply and a few other goodies. Traffic was a little crazy in spots with intermittent traffic lights out. Some good wind gusts and good wave action at the far end. "only" 76,000 customers with power out. Thankfully not us. And to top if off, vetty's office power was out. I was able to pick up a bag though - the cartrophen will have to wait for another day.
The problem is, her heart is not stable. When we started fluids in the spring, it may have been the cause of her heart failure episode. So we proceed cautiously, hoping we can find that balance between enough fluids to help the kidneys and for her to feel better, and not too much for the heart. I'll have to monitor her respiration rate closely the next while.

Glad to hear you made it through the storm with your power intact! We lost power here in Richmond around 2:30 this afternoon & it came back on just after 8 tonight.

Well the deed is done. Neko got 50ml of fluids. And now I watch her like a hawk. She was good about it. I used to give her chicken dust to keep her still, but she didn't need it this time, and might not have eaten it anyway. I put her on a warm bed and she settled in.

Check to see how long it takes for the subq fluids to be absorbed. Obviously, your main concern is how long it takes the body to get rid, and how the extra fluids will affect the heart, but the information on the length of time initial absorption takes might come in handy down the road.

Oh, rats. I thought those were transient conditions, not on-going ones. That is a completely different situation, and a very difficult one. It is possible to find a balance, but as you know, a tough one to monitor, since the balance shifts around. It can be done, but it's a lot of work. Good thing you're a smart cookie. And a determined one.
    Hugs and balance vines. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

The HCM/CHF did go away, but the worry is it coming back. Looking back on my records, she was only on fluids for two weeks before she went downhill. Unfortunately with the IM vet away next week, my next appointment is two weeks away.

The 50ml isn't a lot of fluids - it was hard to even feel it after I gave it to her. I think it's gone now, but not sure. She does seem a little brighter tonight. Appy for Recovery was good and she did pick at a it of the Wellness, more of it once I purreed it.

That's very good news. Red/Rover's advice about recording absorption times is right on point, and an eye opener for me. It makes perfect sense though. With cardiac problems possible, you need to be assured that the fluids are quickly absorbed, instead of hanging around, waiting for the cavities around the lungs and heart to absorb them.

I hope the worst of the storm is over. Please stay safe.

Like you don't have enough to worry about - sheesh!!!
