Rusty had a good night sleeping between his beans with his head on his little green pillow (covered with a fleece blanket in winter). He ate all his nighttime fuds and woke us up before the alarm this morning by zooming around the hallway, sliding on the rug, knocking the cap off the toilet bolt and batting it around. What fun (he had just made a good deposit in his litterbox).
We are leaving shortly for Ice Carnival. I'll take some pics and post them later. The day started out at +9 degrees F., but is expected to get up to about 20 degrees. It's snowing now and more is expected. We'll bundle up, since it is cold when you're just standing around watching the "events": curling, ladies' frying-pan toss, woodsmen's exhibition (where students on the Paul Smiths College woodsmen's teams compete in axe-throwing, chain-sawing, wood chopping, etc. There are a surprising number of women students on the Woodsmen's Team.)
Here's the "ice moose" in front of the ice castle. Lots of people around having fun, taking pictures. We're going back this afternoon to see rescued and rehabilitated wildlife by the Adirondack Wildlife Rescue. Report later.
Rusty is back in the lagoon, watching over the kitties.
The ice castle looks amazing and so does the moose. What a work of art! I read about the history of the ice palace and all the work that goes into it and it's really cool. I loved watching a video on how they harvest the ice. Quite an ordeal to make those every year, but what a spectacle.
Hope you enjoyed your day in winter wonderland. Sounds like Rusty has been enjoying his day, too!
Wow...I just looked at some pictures of where you live and it's absolutely gorgeous! The winter looks really cold but the other seasons are so colorful and beautiful. I'm tired of living in a big city in California. Wish we could move to another state and have a nice piece of land and a herd of all kinds of furry friends, and grow our food and I could knit and bake pies all day and read by the fire. Dang...daydreaming....
Oooh! Thanks for sharing the picture of the moose and the ice palace, Ella. My hands got cold just looking at it!
I see Rusty is keeping nice and warm at the lagoon while you and Edward brave the weather. Love the image of his playing with the cover from the toilet bolt! Who needs expensive cat toys?
No. It looked too slippery! But we did go to watch the game in progress.
We went to the wildlife bird rescue presentation at the art gallery and saw the most beautiful Snowy Owl. She had been hit by a bus during the "outbreak" of Snowy Owls in this region 2 years ago and lost the use of one wing. Here's her picture:
The other owl, a Barn Owl, was not a rescue, but was given to the Wildlife Rescue by the Kansas City Zoo, where he had been born 20 years ago. His name is "Oz".
It was a wonderful day. We stopped in to see some friends and ate kettle corn, one of the specialties of Ice Carnival.
Sounds like a wonderful day Ella and I love picturing Rusty laying between you and his daddy bean with his wee head on his own pillow
Love the pictures of the owls! I've had no luck finding a snowy owl this year (or last year) although we did find a Great Horned Owl on a nest the other day!
