10/2 Titan AMPS 186. Updates and pic

Good morning everyone , sorry for the lack of updates, it's been hectic around here . Titan is doing ok, seems his appy is slipping a bit in the morning and he is getting fussy on what he will eat but by afternoon he will eat just about anything you put in front of him. I learned a bit more about Desmopressin in that it comes in two concentrations ( .01 and .15 %). Dr Becky put both on the prescription order and the pharmacy filled the .01. That's okay as we are starting out and need to find the dose that works. After a week on 2 drops 2x a day his urine concentration had not improved much from his baseline but his drinking and peeing slowed down a bit. We increased to 3 drops 2x a day last week and I will bring samples in on Wednesday or Thursday but I do not expect much change. I expect to switch to the .15 concentration eventually. He is getting a little lazy about getting into the LB, usually gets to the puppy pads surrounding the LB and sez "close enuf"! Yesterday he gave us a chuckle as Paula had baked a pan of brownies for evening dessert, left them on the counter to cool and somebody ( I'm not naming names....Titan) claimed the pan was his, evidence follows:

Why are you giving Desmopressin? My Ravan has been drinking & peeing a LOT ever since he got Diabetes (8 months) He also started leaking urine when he's sleeping. I wonder if the Desmopressin would help?

 

We are fairly confident that Titan is also afflicted with Diabetes Insipidus. His urine is very dilute and as far as we know there is no test for it but if he responds to the Desmopressn it's a fairly sure sign. It's a kidney malfunction being unable to process ADH? and he thinks he is always thirsty so he drinks and therefore pees a lot. The drinking and peeing a lot when first DX with diabetes mellitus is the cats way of removing the sugar it is no longer processing. That should correct itself once regulated.

 

Mmm...looks like Paula makes a deliscious brownie! Glad to hear Titan is doing ok, I wonder what's up with the morning appy? Maybe Mr. fussypants knows Paula will be in the kitchen stirring up something yummy, and doesn't want to spoil his appetite
