Good morning all, it was a long a long night with Bella and this knee of mine, that steroid shot made it hurt worse last night and I was sweating so bad, it’s a little better this am
Have MRI on April 4, awaiting approval from Humana, don’t know why, I have to pay for it anyway. He wants to see what all is going on, I said why didn’t we just do the mri and not xrays and he said that’s not how insurance companies work, he said would require X-ray first
Have a great day
Looks like Bella loves the f2
Prayers to @Phoebes @Bronx's dad @Krystina & Nelli @Laura and Gremlin @JoyBee&Ravan for Peggy Sue @JeffJ all in need

It's nice to see Bella back in green, but sorry you didn't get much sleep last night. Sorry your knee is bothering you so much. I hope it's better today. Sending prayers.

Nice numbers for Bella! That does look like a good dose for him - all those blues and greens :)

Sorry to hear you're having such a bad time with your knee - these knee problems seem to abound - my sis in law has a bad knee too...hers is from a torn meniscus and ACL - she's waiting to see the surgeon on April 1 and then surgery to follow - she's gotten so bad now she's had to take a leave from work :( And of course still trying to get DH better from his knee replacement - it appears you're part of a big club of bad knee problems - not a great club to be in :( Try to take it easy until then. Sending prayers :bighug:

No it's not a great club and to top it off the chronic arthritis I have in my back, dr said I've got the worst job to have with my bad back
Sucks getting old

Does anyone know what they do if cat has a cavity do they fill it?? Bella has one but cant do dental till after trial if hes excepted

It's pretty rare for cats and dogs to get cavities. They're called "caries" in the animal world. Are you sure that's what it is?

The place I took Ollie for dental does. And get this they do root canals, crowns, and implants, anything a human can get apparently a cat or dog can get. Who knew!!!!

Won't the cavity hurt like it would us?

The vet we are going to for trial said he needed teeth cleaned and he had a cavity or maybe I heard it wrong

Omg I had no idea and I'm sure if it's a cavity it would eventually hurt

Looking good Bella!
I've never heard of a cat's cavity being filled! I thought that's what was referred to as an absortive lesion and was pulled?

Bella has stage 2 chronic kidney disease

Same as Ravan! :(
Some things I'm doing for him, He gets Calcitriol twice a week. You can read about it here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8911021
If you want more info on where to order it let me know. It's a very small dose & I get it from a compounding Pharmacy. You'll need a Prescription from your vet.

I also started him on Renadyl ,a High Potency Probiotic & prebiotic to maintain "Healthy Kidney Function" he's been taking this for nearly 2 months. In about 2 weeks I'll have blood work done to see how his Kidneys are doing.

He needs LOW Phosphorus, the lower the better. Ravan eats mostly a Raw diet but occasionally I give him Purina Pro Plan Focus (Urinary Tract Health Formula, Turkey & Giblets 4% carbs/187 Phosphorus)
It's difficult to find Low carb & Low Phosphorus. I do not give him ANY dry food at all, including Treats. It's not good for his Kidneys.

Any canned food that's over 200 Phosphorus I add Aluminum Hydroxide Power that binds the Phosphorus. I ordered it from "Thrivingpets.com"

The sooner you start all this the better for his Kidneys!

One more thing. Lots of water! I'm fussy about that. I only use glass or Stainless bowls & only distilled water (no fluoride or any other things that can pollute his kidneys!) I did water testing for many years for the EPA, you would not believe the stuff that's Allowed in the water you drink!! I've been drinking Distilled water for over 40 years!

I'm a lot more concerned about Ravan's kidneys than the Diabetes!

Bella has stage 2 chronic kidney disease :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( I will post lab results later
So sorry to hear this! I had one kitty with CKD; giving VERY LOW phosphorus food, lots of water, Sub Qs; sometimes they are nauseous. In my case, he developed high blood pressure, so needed pills! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

My kitty was a lot more advanced than Bella! Don't worry too much, evolution can be very very slow with good treatments! Stage 2 is at the beginning!

Is the raw low phosphorus

This article is very good at explaining about a Raw diet. https://feline-nutrition.org/health/phosphorus-can-be-key-for-kidneys

I do know water is very important with Kidney failure. I wouldn't feed anything DRY . The article on the Yellow sticky by Dr Pierson , about dry food , is very informative. She explains how harmful dry food is for cats.

I recently tried Alnutrin Supplement to add to the raw meat. I ordered the one with "Egg Shell Calcium" it's lower in Phosphorus than the formula with bone. Bones are too high in Phosphorus!

When I first made it, my cats loved it! I was so Happy because they had gone off the Raw diet I had been feeding for all their life. For 3 days they were all gobbling up the meat with the Alnutrin . On the 4th day no one would eat it!

It's been a week now & I have 5 lbs of meat with the Alnutrin in it & they won't go near it???? I have no idea what happened.:arghh: I also tried Food FUR LIfe supplement & all 3 of my cats ate it but then Vomited it all up!

Drives me crazy! It's so difficult to find something they'll eat consistently!

There's some learning involved, just like when we started with the Diabetes https://www.felinecrf.org/phosphorus.htm

Once you have the labs posted, @Marje and Gracie may be able to help you as to next steps. Are you familiar with Tanya’s site https://felinecrf.org/ It’s a go to site for kidney disease.

As it turns out, I just got off the phone with a friend (former member of FDMB), whose 19 year old civvie has had CKD for six years, and she is still stage two. She is on a low phosphorus raw diet. Cats can have low level CKD for years. With Neko, the only change I did was switch out a couple of her proteins for lower phosphorus ones. Some raw meats like poultry and rabbit usually have ground bone, which is higher phosphorus, so I switched to calcium from other forms (egg shell). Neko also had proteinuria, so had to have a med for that, benazapril. But those were the only changes. Her phosphorus numbers were fine with diet change for a couple years.

Wishing you and Bella the best with this new hurdle. You can do it. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

What foods did u feed, I have freeze dried raw stella and chewy and primal

I’ll be happy to check the labs so please tag me when you have them ready to view.

I’ve had four CKD cats so I can also help you with some advice. Regarding the phosphorus binder Jot mentioned, you don’t use binder until the P is over 6. The goal is to feed lower P foods to try and control it but no commercial or raw foods will br “low” P. Only the renal diets have low P but the downside is the ingredients are terrible and they are also low protein which is not good for CKD cats unless they are at end stages.

But, my point is that it does little good to just put binder on a food that is higher than 200 mgP/100 kcal unless the cat’s P is high. At that point, you’d want to put it on all foods with the exception of the renal diets.

All but one of my cats lived very long and were stable with their CKD when they passed from something else. There’s hope!

not necessarily. It depends if ground bone is in it.
Correct.

Food Fur Life uses egg shell in place of bone for the calcium if you are going to go raw.

You can go to Gizmo's SS on the food tab for a list with phos levels, calories, price/oz and where I purchased it. What you need to watch is that Bella gets enough calories because some of the food is lower calorie for what ever reason).

Stage 2 is completely manageable. Keep the phos in food as low as possible. Plenty of water in the food and when it becomes necessary, add the binder. The best binder (fine powder, absorbs into food well and tasteless) is through thrivingpets.com

Does this preclude him from the trial? o_O

Yes and thank you
I don’t have to give him raw, I usually just give to him as a treat after testing

What is considered low phos (number)

And what does the highlighted yellow mean?

Oh, and stay away from any fish based if you can. Some of the Wureva has tuna but I held out as long as I could before resorting to feeding it. Gizmo only got a tiny bit with his Canna mixed in it.
