Ivana had a lovely short blue surf last night, but then looks to have immediately bounced with a pink AMPS this morning. The good news is that at +3 she's down to yellow, so perhaps this one might not last as long.

Hope everyone had, is having, or will have a wonderful new year! For those of you still in 2015, I can tell you that 2016 is looking pretty good so far :) We had plans to head out but Midori went downhill yesterday afternoon and we wanted to be home for her. Poor lil chook was having trouble breathing, and we fully expected her not to see in the new year with us. Hubby slept on the lounge with her on his tummy, and the good news is that she made it through the night, and her breathing difficulties seems to have eased this morning. However, she still hasn't eaten or drunk anything (except for 3mL that I syringed into her mouth yesterday), so on that basis alone we expect to lose her very soon :(

More healing vines to Midori . . . she was only pretending to be sleeping in that pic with your husband yesterday. I see her beady little eye watching the camera from his armpit! hahahahaha obviously she's quite a character. I hope she perks up. :bighug:

A blue pre-shot, this is looking very good Ivana! Please continue this through the rest of the cycle too, ok?

In other news, Midori died in Darryn's arms while in the waiting room of the emergency vet this afternoon. We had taken her there to send her on her way, but she beat us to it. We will miss her hilarity, her pushiness, her unique voice, and her leadership of the flock. This is the last pic we have of her before she fell ill, although she would have been hiding her symptoms at this time a few weeks ago. Rest in peace Midori :rb_icon:

I'm so sorry to hear that Midori lost her battle. I'm glad she was safe and loved in your DH's arms when the end came. We should all be so fortunate to pass that way. Chickens are such funny critters. My sister has 16 and when she is working in the yard, they follow her all over. When she has a snack for them she just goes out to the porch and yells "Chickens!" and they all come rushing over. I hope you can take comfort in your happy, funny memories of Midori. I wish you, Darryn, Ivana and all your critters a happy, healthy New Year.

Aw, I'm so sorry about Midori. I have heard wonderful things about chickens' personalities - how loving and sweet they are. Many prayers and our deepest sympathies to you and DH.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. It never gets easier, does it. We had a little burial ceremony for her under a big tree, and she is now at the bridge bossing around her sisters who have passed before her. Chickens really are amazing companions if people would give them a chance to be seen as individuals, not egg-machines.
