I’m feeling much much better ! Thanks as long as I get myself in the bed and dnt fall asleep in this recliner my feet and legs dnt swell as bad in the bed . I put my legs oa a pillow in the bed . When I fall asleep in the recliner my legs hang down all night . That’s not good for the morning .

Good morning ! Salem is liking this dose but I was wondering why you increased. He was hitting greens on 1.75 and the AM cycle of 2/2 he had a 60. Increasing after that number doesn’t give a lot of wiggle room.

Be as vigilant testing as you always are since he’s been at 2 units for 4 cycles and the depot should be about filled.

He’s looking really good!

I started seeing more blues so I decided to increase . Lol I see less greens I like to increase . I also look at the naidiar he’s lowest point to see how low he goes . I know it doesn’t look like much wiggle room to increase but salem doesn’t usually go much lower on his lowest point when I increase . It always helps hes numbers go down when I increase but doesn’t effect his naidiars much . Thanks ! Have a great day !

That's a nice low start for Salem today! Hope he surfs safely. I'm wondering the same thing about the increase - I wouldn't have increased with those nice numbers you were getting...oh well...hindsight is 20/20. Get plenty of tests...he may show you some sharkies soon.

Have a great day Tina! Glad you're getting to bed and getting those legs propped up!

He’s doing great so far . Thanks ! my son is at home testing him but he was going up slowly when I left at 12:09 noon .
What are some signs of otj ? I need to read up on that . The board should have somethings on it . I just dnt remember seeing awhile on it . I will search and look

Most cats have come so far down the dosing ladder that they're at such a tiny drop of insulin that a trial is begun to see how they do without any at all...

Luci's never even been close to a trial...once I think we were at .25...but that didn't last...and she came right back up the dosing ladder.

OTJ trial instructions:

  • Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
  • If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day.
  • If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working! Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed.
  • He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
  • After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on. Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Thanks ! Sue ! Salems done well today . I hope he does well tonight and tomorrow . He doesn’t seem to drop too low like he use to drop close to 50 or under he gets around 60 but I haven’t caught him below ? But doesn’t mean he hasn’t I know that . It’s weird how he’s been on these doses and they had reductions and now he seems stable with them so far , I can only wish he does ok . I’m crossing my fingers . I was questioning myself whether I was wise to increase or not . I know after awhile he will probably change again like always but now day three he seems ok . I’m praying he doesn’t go down I’m trying to note in his journal when he eats and see if it’s food influenced or other little things I notice that might influence anything . I hate to take hes food away . I guess just watch and see . The tiniest things I know can make a big difference as I have seen already . Have a good night ! Thanks everyone ! Hope everyone’s feeling ok . Today my feet and legs since I did go to bed have not bothered me as much . I better go to bed again tonight . I gotta stop falling asleep in my recliner ! I get where I want to go to bed but stay up to watch salem then I fall asleep in my chair ! Like someone said I forgot who said it ? someone just said a few days ago or yesterday lol I’m no good to Salem if I’m sick .

Besides being on a tiny amount of insulin, (0.1 ) , the following is taken right from starting OTJ trail .

Prior to starting an OTJ trial, one wants to see kitty mostly in the range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL), but under 100 overall... with only occasional readings in the 100 - 120 range.

Remission is achieved when kitty can go 14 days without insulin while maintaining normal bloodglucose values under 100 overall. Most will stayin the 50 - 80mg/dL range. Although, some willoccasionally experience BGnumbers up to 120mg/dL.

Thanks ! I appreciate the help new stuff to read in case maybe we might be able to use it one day ? Lol I’m wishing he does ! I dnt know but he’s doing so good I’m hoping ! Wishful thinking lol
