Morning all,

BTB asap but just wanted to say we're all set for DKA. With the vet yesterday we came
out with a plan to fix the hight ketone level + uti + gigivitis he found.

Small Kitty is under antibiotic, lot's of SubQ to throw in and constant monitoring.
Vet says that there is no magic solution, GL must be better controlled or it will come
back. Have a prescription for many years of Levemir, making the switch as soon
as we're set with with ''DKA'', if we can call it like that.

Enjoy your day, going to sleep right now.

Sébastien

Good Morning ,

Just wanted to give you a hug and so glad that you had SK seen and have a plan and that they found the infection to treat so you can start your improvement plan in motion. Get some rest. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sending Prayers.
Have a prescription for many years of Levemir, making the switch as soon
as we're set with with ''DKA'', if we can call it like that.

When you are ready to switch post up for advice on the dose, I know that often when people switch to Lev they reduce it a bit. Probably best if you get some help with that from folk with experience in that.

Just Curious, probably missed the reasoning, have been busy so not on board so much the last week or so, but is there any particular reason you are considering the switch?

Morning Gill, Yeah, will switch cause the vet said the reason we're back to dka is
the yellows, reds and black, that it will come back (ketone). He agreed that bounce
is somethings hard to control, and it is. See Small Kitty this morning, he was blue
2hs ago and he's not yellow and will turn pink or red. I've studied many SS of members
switching to Lev and it seems to have made curves more flat. With bounce all around
we'll never make this work. I'll ask for advice but I have a good idea of what's ahead.
Small Kitty is at 1.75 Lantus right now, I'll start at 1.5 Lev and move up.

Hope this will work cause I don't like Small Kitty's SS since diagnosed...

Enjoy your Week-end Gill, thanks for passing by.

Fingers crossed for a successful switch to Lev, Sébastien. Most kitties do have flatter curves with Lev- (don't look at Murphy's spreadsheet though because he is not one of them) Good thing you found the infections - lots good vibes and vines going your way

You guys are all amazing, Small Kitty will get back on track because of YOU. Your prayers made their way to the target, good sight !

* Talking about prayers, Amanda has her school fair in an hour or so, let's move on and pray that she'll leive a good impression to her future employers. she's an amazing person and plenty deserv a good job, plus, I love her ;)

Adding my vines and prayers for SK Sebastien. I'm glad you were able to get her to the vet and find those infections and develop a plan to treat her.

So sweet of you to offer prayers for Amanda! I will be adding my prayers to yours!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm so glad you have a plan in place! Antibiotics and fluids should help.

About the sub-q fluids... 400 mL a day is an awful lot. Last night, @Red & Rover (GA) & "Cat" suggested breaking that up into smaller amounts given more frequently. I think that may be a good idea. The most I ever gave Alex was 300 mL at one sitting (that's considered a lot!) when she was severely dehydrated and knocking on death's door... and that was just for a day or two. You'll be able to tell if you should cut back on the amount given daily by a visual inspection of his body. You can also feel for any fluid pockets. If it looks/feels like he hasn't absorbed all the fluids you've previously given do not give him any more until the fluids have been absorbed.

I love how your vet doesn't want to switch to Levemir until SK is no longer throwing ketones. Smart man!

Positive thoughts, healing healing vines, and prayers sent to all!

Wow, that information is piece of gold. With 160ml since this morning Small Kitty has a pocket
of fluid in the belly, would have never knew it was time to stop. That will make things way more
simple then going with fluid quanity.

No, let me clarify...
When you see a pocket of fluid forming while you're administering fluids... that's normal.

When it's time to give him more fluids... don't give him more until any pockets of fluid have been absorbed from the previous session.

Thanks for the comments, my vet was basically listening me. He didn't even knew about Livemir,
he had his eyes wide open realizing on this vets information sharing site that this was a good strategy.
Think he was feeling like discussing with a co-worker about FD. Thanks to what I learned here.
At the end of our conversation he said he was interested in knowing what would come out of the plan.

:):):):)

Small Kitty is in a solid bounce, testing was useless :(

Thought that increasing a bit would be helpfull in killing ketone but sounds it's
counter logic.

Will see this tomorrow, my photo buddy is here, we've watched shots from our last
shooting and will watch a movie tonight.

*Small Kitty came to see him, a first. He would usually run away and hide under desk.
