Nice AMPS.
You have 1.50 in the units column this morning. Don't forget, you're on 1.25 now.
Thanks. I'll change it.

I am seriously considering giving Mirtazapine. The not eating is stressing me out. I think I finally got him to eat but was less than enthusiastic. Shooting 80's and not eating isn't cool.

@Squalliesmom mentioned cyproheptadine on Uncles condo. Maybe she will chimes in here.

I prefer cypro over mirtz. Do you have to leave for work today?
Maybe give him a few minutes and then try some topper that he likes on top of his PS food.

Yes. I have work. How soon I can go in is yet to be determined. He did finally eat. I put some Bonito flakes on top.

I don't have an rx on hand for cyproheptadine and never heard of it.

You can try a little sprinkle of parmesan cheese. You can also try warming his food just a bit. If you have any dehydrated meat treats you can crush them up and use that as a topper. In a pinch, if you have any dry food, you can crush a tiny bit of that and use the powder as a topper. I had some YAZC left over and I ran it through the food processor till it was a fine powder and used it as a topping; they went wild over it!

Might try Parmesan. No contraband (dry) food in the house. :D

Could I crush the mirt and mix it with some gravy? I will call vet this morning and see if I can get the cypro for future.

It is getting it. I have Mirtazapine. Maybe 1/4 tab. He has had it before but it has been almost a year.
If you call your vet and ask for a Rx for Cypro he'll probably give it to you. It's also a human med so you might be able to get it filled at your local pharmacy. I get the 4 mg tablets and break them in half, you might be able to get away with just a quarter of a tab...I don't know if a human pharmacy will have them in 4 mg tabs but it's worth checking out.

He may just be not feeling as starving hungry because his blood sugar is good.
You could try just a sliver of Mirtazapine. I've never tried crushing it. I've always pilled it.
I have to go to work early, today. I have to start getting ready and head out the door in a few.

I think this is exactly it.

I've always pilled it.
Hubby has already left. It takes both of us to pill him. I crushed 1/2 pill and put 1/2 (1/4 7.5) in the bowl. I will mix with the HC that is probably coming in 15-30 min. I have to know he is eating, especially from the autofeeder when I am not here.

According to the ASPCA oregano is toxic to cats, but I see lots of other places that say it is not.
Interesting.......hmmm. I have given it as a topper several times. I have also sprinkled a bit of cat nip on top of food to get them eating.
The oregano was on a list I was given from another member when Furball didn't want to eat. See below.

Do you have any parmesan cheese? If you maybe sprinkle a little of that on her food, she will perhaps eat? usually ondansetron is better for nausea than cerenia but it doesn't hurt to give her the cerenia....it can help.

Can you finger feed her....either see if she will lick food off your finger or will she let you dab some on the front of her tongue or on the roof of her mouth? Just be careful that it's only a small amount and that you don't get it down her throat.

Here's some info Jill often posts when a kitty won't eat:Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core.

-making a buffet to give him choices
- heating food

sprinkle food with :
- forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
- parm. cheese
- smashed crumbles of dry food
- bonito tuna flakes
- halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
- poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.

other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
- trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
- kentucky fried chicken
- deli turkey /chicken
- plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
-canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
- chicken broth -- low sodium

+1.5=73

Holding flat for now.

@carfurby
Thanks, I think you have provided that to me before. I am 99% sure it is just the lower numbers that is making him "not" eating. He will eat - eventually (most of the time) - and the HC (good stuff) he loves (of course).

Yes he gets 1 tbsp twice a day. Each tbsp is 49 calories and counts as one of his meals.

Thank you. :bighug:
I might get a small bag and try it. Gizmo was a grazer on dry his entire life up till about 2-1/2 years ago.

Any idea what the phosphorus is in it?

ETA - the Zero has 0.81%!

How do you store it so it stays fresh?

:banghead:

He ate all his +2.5 fuds. No issue, no fuss. I didn't even see him go in there (or hear the autofeeder turn). When I realize the time I went and checked. All gone! :banghead::)

He is just being a PITA, typical cat.

It is the potassium - he doesn't like it. I tried the NOW brand of potassium and he was definitely turned off by it - I switched to the Vet Solution Renal K+ - he did good on it for a few weeks. I omitted in food for this cycle. He immediately ate all his PS fuds! I am also going to shorten the last turn availability of food so that he has longer between last food and PS food.
