Good morning all,

As you can see we're still far away from green but Small Kitty is still standing on it's legs.
That's a beginning, he could be on his back shaking like and old style pager :)

I asked my friends at the pet food store to see if they can find Purina One varieties
with low carb. Could this change anything ? Vet always told me everything is in diet
and the chicken an others have low carb values.

I had good intention in raw but it's simply too much management. I already
have lots of energy to spend on preparing my own food :).

Current feeding is Fancy Feast lower then 5% (not even sure), the turkey ?? chicken ?? Basically the Classic / Paté ones.
I let the fish ones aside as I had them, at one point, being salmon addicted (was feeding them with human canned salmon).

Food chart I find are dating from a couple of years and are so confusing, dry matter, wet matter, I'm all messed up.

The very best food would be one that would be low in Carb and Protein as well as I have one cat, Big Brother that is
getting more and more fatty.

The one thing I'm sure of it that I would do almost anything to get the SL lower. Seems all I'm doing doesn't have
any effect. AMPS and PMPS are always deadly high.

The cod, sole, shrimp pate is incredibly high in phosphorus.

Can you get the Sheba pate? What about putting more time between meals? Or try a snack 3 hrs before PS.

Thanks both of you for your replies. Woodsyvife, I found this on a post :

Sheba Classics Geflügel Cocktail 4.1% carbs (chicken and/or turkey)
Sheba Classics Kalb und Huhn 3.9% carbs (veal and chicken)
Sheba Classics Lachs 8.9% carbs (salmon)
Sheba Classics Ente und Gans 3.9% carbs (duck and goose)
Sheba Classics Wild 3.9% carbs (deer)

Sounds it's good option, comparable to FF. Walmart Canada doesn't maintain this food brand, I'll need to verify with my pet food store.

In regards of meal time I can set the feeder to whatever time the best but I would have though that feeding at the end of the cycle would bring SL even higher. Am I misunderstanding the principles GL level management ?

I haven't seen it in Ontario for years, and I have 3 different pet food chains in town to stand in and stare at labels. Only in the US?

Here's is what they sent me. I don't have the flavor options you listed. Only chicken, beef, and fish flavor. Never heard of the cocktail one.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate hearing from you because your feedback helps us make A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS®.

The SHEBA® PERFECT PORTIONS® Pate will contain approximately less than 1% carbohydrate. This will include canned SHEBA® ad well as PERFECT PORTIONS®.

If you have additional questions or comments, feel free to call us at 1-800-525-5273, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central time.

Sincerely,

Go to Sheba.com and enter your zip to see if they have it in Canada. I don't know if chewy.com ships there. You can email them and ask.

Can you get Friskies in Canada or 9-Lives? Their Pate are 3-8% and cheaper than FF.

Friskies is no problem, 9-lives I don't think so, not in pet food stores at least. Walmart doesn't
maintain it neither. Canada has NOTHING !! All the good stuff is on the other side :)

I beleive it's just too cold here, cans would pop open during shipping :)

There is ONE low carb good food made here but it's pure meat, my cats would
simply look and go. Big brother would starve to death instead of eating it.

Price is not a problem (up to a certain level, would not pay 1$ for a small 3oz can),
reason is to get some good quality that would lower carb intake and hope Big Brother
will not get bigger then he already is.

Sad he could not take car of his brother, if like me he would lose weight. Had to
pierce a new hole in my waistband since March :)

Sincerely,

That is quite amazing, 1% ! would be curious to have a can and see what's written on it's side.

Another thing that is amazing is the time you took to verify that, that's very nice of you, Woodswife. I'll dig a bit to see if can be ordered online. Even Purina One is not available to my pet food store, sounds we're going to be pure online civilization soon :)

The insulin is on your side at a reasonable price.!!!!!!!! I guess your not close to the border that you could go over and get it.

If you go to their web site, they list what's on the can. I can't read the very tiny print on these very tiny containers. When I contacted them many months ago they said all their pate was 2.5%.

A week ago when I asked about the perfect portions because of the "natural juice" now listed, that is what I received. They said they changed the labe, the food was always in juice. The calculators all come in under 3%.

I asked if "I feed your chicken perfect portion (1.3 oz) to my cat straight from the package, how many carbs is he getting if he eats the whole thing???" I was told under 2%.

You don't want one low in protein if you want him to lose weight, because if the protein is lower, it's either the fats or the carbs that are higher.

Neither Sheba nor 9-Lives are available in Canada, as far as I know - I've been to every pet store going (at least it feels that way, LOL) and never seen them. The Amazon.ca availability you linked is through a third-party seller located in the UK.

PetSmart Canada lists a few varieties of Purina Pro Plan food on their website, but you'll have to be careful as some of them list carb-y things like wheat gluten, corn starch, and rice as ingredients.

Sebastien, have you looked at the Canadian food list a member here made? There are some varieties of President's Choice brand (sold at Loblaws banner grocery stores) that are low carb. Here's the link:

Brilliant. Thank you. Was looking at PC and Performatrin today and put them back on the shelf because I didn't have the info. I've always wondered if FF was being repackaged and sold as house brand and at a few cents cheaper. Only problem I've had in the past with PC is that the rings come away from the lid quite easily, leaving you struggling to figure out how to open the can.

I can understand why you are frustrated with SK's blood sugar. He is high too much of the time. I think part of what is going on is that when he gets into lower ranges, he doesn't stay there very long. So much of what you are seeing is high.

Hang in there! You'll get him into better numbers.

Thanks for your comment Julie. From an objective point of view, to you see
a tendency of things getting better ? I don't see any tendency at all, seems
to me it's like a balloon filled with helium flying where the wind want's to carry
him. No need for pilot, just need hope in the wind vominh down

The member who put this spread sheet together is marvelous. Sadly I wasn't able to find anything at Loblaws or Super C (Canadian big surface grocery).

There is one cat food that I found at a grocery store that is not of the major food company, it's called ''Supreme'' or Irresistible / Poultry Variety Pack.
Ingredients sounds like FF, start with meat then jumps to xyz bi-products.

Turkey and giblets dinner starts with turkey (make sens), liver then by-product
Gourmet Chicken go with chicken, liver then by-product.

What's inside is probably Fancy Feast with a different label. Price is similar if not cheaper.

Might call them, it's written on the box ''prepared for Metro'', a grocery here in Quebec.
Not sure it's miracle food..

Is there a Provigo near you? That's Loblaws in Quebec. Not that I know much, but I'll look at the one you mentioned in Metro the next time I'm in one.
