We had a member that on removing dry completely from the household went from 5.5u to OTJ in a week, when Linda took all the cats off kibble (he was stealing a few pieces here and there) http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/1-10-belle-amps-408.189432/

    Look at Feb 18th

Another one is Spider, started transitioning of all dry diet from 6/4
By 6/8 he was on all wet
    By 6/15 he was OTJ
Here's the SS in the remarks CG documents all the food given.

Have you or managed to find any low carb dry that he would eat?

Is there any reason you can't leave wet down for him in the garage over night? Maybe several portions in a timed feeder if he has a tendancy to wolf the wet down.

sometimes he might go low at night and there is no one around, having dry food available helps him in case he gets low in the middle of night.

Helena, if you looked at the SS I linked above, you can see that the insulin needs can reduced dramatically and very quickly, when the dry (high carb food) was take out of the picture. (5u to nothing in a week)

Please be cautious when removing the dry, it is advisable to do it slowly. We don't want Belle's BG to bottom out suddenly.
