TRADUCTION ENGLISH :

Hello everyone, News on the Forum oriented by Stephanie, and very happy to be able to exchange with you even if my English will only translate by Google translation because I speak very very little ...

Here I come to you because Caramel is currently with 4ui insulin Lantus (which I still find high) but knowing that it is under Royal Canin Diabetic that still contains 27% of carbohydrates. As a reminder Caramel reached the 8ui of lantus because of my vet he was very high every time in the curves made in the veterinary clinic (due to stress?)

This morning woke up in panic for the first time at 11:30 am (for reminder me times are 8:30 am in the morning at 8:30 pm) I directly put the amount of caramel croquettes and I directly injected these insulin 4ui big mistake and double guilt I decide to test immediately 8min after and caramel was 178, +1 to 161 and + 1.1 / 2 + 163, in your opinion is it normal that suddenly 15H after its rate is so low, would not it to go back just? in your opinion can you have gone down even lower tonight?

Tonight I plan to feed a lot later as the meal was this morning at 11:30 but to resume my usual schedule should I skip the injection of lantus tonight even if it is high?

I ordered yesterday and took the Pro vet plan veterinary diabetes m / d which contain 17% carbohydrate or 10% less than the one I currently have.

Here I hope that the message translated by Google will be clear and that my formulations will be good.

Thank you all.

Ah oui autre questions :

TRADUCTION ENGLISH :

Oh yes other questions:

as soon as I get the new kibble I have to leave caramel to 4ui and monitor more regularly or have to immediately lower the dose of insulin
I am really at the beginning of understanding the complexity of diabetes but I really want to monitor and understand everything and can eventually stabilize my cat that I love so much:)

Welcome to FDMB and this group! We will do our best to make sure our English is communicated in an understandable manner. I can read a little French. Google isn't 100% accurate, but it's close.

If I understand, it sounds like you "overslept" -- woke up several hours later than the time you usually awake. It's always a bad feeling when that happens but we have all done this or been late to give our cat their injection. Regardless, Caramel's blood glucose numbers look very good this morning. I would get another test no later than +4. Usually, Lantus starts to work by +2 (this is called "onset") so you will begin to see if numbers are decreasing over the next several hours.

Since you gave Caramel her shot several hours late, one option is to skip the next shot so you can get back on schedule. If you have the flexibility with your schedule, you can move her injection time 15 minutes earlier at every injection time until you are back on schedule.

Did you order more kibble (dry food)? We recommend that you feed your cat a low carbohydrate canned food diet. You would want the food to be less than 10% carbohydrates. You would also want to have some high carbohydrate food in case you need it to help raise Caramel's numbers if they are in a low range. One of our members is in Spain and she may know of cat food brands that are available in Europe.

You are in very good company here. We are all adore our cats. In the beginning, there is an overwhelming amount to learn about managing your cat's diabetes. It truly gets easier. The people here are very generous with their time and their knowledge. Several of us volunteer our time here and have been doing so for many years. We will do our best to help you and Caramel.

Welcome!

I agree with Sienne. Do another test at +4 to see where she is, and perhaps skip tonight. It is interesting that the numbers are so low today, even with the late shot and the high-carbohydrate (HC) food. Has anything else changed recently?

When you get the new food, usually we just monitor very closely, and let the numbers tell us when and how much to reduce the dose. However, there are other people here with more experience than me, who might be able to make a specific recommendation about dose.

Caramel is adorable! :)

[TRADUCTION FRANÇAIS]

Bienvenue!

"skip" means "do not give the shot one time", so "passer" is probably a better translation than what Google Translate picks, "sauter" (my French is very limited, so I'm not sure :))

That is a word we use a lot here, so I'm sure you will see it again! I will try to point out any other "odd" translations as I see them.

We are very happy to see you here on the board, and hope that we can help you with Caramel. Like Sienne I speak and read some french, and with the help of Google Translate I am sure we can get to understand each other.

It is good that you have bought some dry food that is lower in Carbohydrate, but it is still classed as High, we want food that is lower than 10% Carbohydrate, and wet food is much better than dry food.

Will Caramel eat wet food??

I live in Spain, I order food for my cats and dogs from Zooplus.
If you look here there is a list of Low carbohydrate food, although it says it is a list for United Kingdom, almost all of the food is available throughout Europe via Zooplus.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1J5JpMe6TDXrHq_aTl9hUtHy6Gs9oRBqlz4nPGKxtySA/pubhtml
I am now using (I am limited which ones I can use because George also has early Kidney problems)
• Granata pet symphonie
• Thrive
• Terra Faelis
• Ferringa
But I have also used
• Animonda
• Catz Finefood
• Grau

The only Dry food that we can get in Europe is Ziwipeak, it is quite expensive, but is the only one that is below 10% carbohydrate.
My recommendation would be to slowly change his diet to a wet food diet as this is much better for his health.
Changing the diet will probably help a lot and probably mean that she will need less insulin.
If or when you change her diet, it is best to do it very slowly, so that you can keep Caramel from dropping too low (hypoglycemic)

Here is a link to PDF in french written by a Vet and Feline Nutritionist, Dr Lisa.

Thank you all for your answers actually I was just surprised to see a rate so low at 15H of the last injection normally he should have been up no? I already lowered the insulin dose by half my poor cat was already very high insulin and also had very high rates .... for the transition yes I intend to do it gently with kibbles already a little less caloric than this one right now and also I took pate catz fin food

A big thanks to everyone for welcoming @Mel & Caramel. I am indeed also wondering how to interpret his low +15. He didn't come out of the purples as far as we could see these last days on 4ui. To me this looks like a sign the dose is too high, if I put it together with the astonishingly low values seen on January 15th. Should he stay on 4ui (skipping injection tonight and resuming normal schedule tomorrow morning) or should the dose be adjusted?

FR:

@Mel & Caramel: a big big congratulations for posting here and managed the situation like a pro! I'm sure you'll find great advice here, there are many people who have years of experience with Lantus and have seen others. I stay here of course but you will see that with more people on the spot I am sure that we will find a solution to the dosage of Caramel.

As I explained to you, here we do a publication per day maximum. As the situation can change throughout the day, we change the title of the advertisement as and when. To do that, you go to the top of your advert, and under the title, on the right, you will see "Thread Tools". You fly over and underneath you will see "Edit Title" appear. You click on it and you can, for example, add in your title the last measurements that you made. Or change the title completely if it has nothing to do with where the discussion is.

TRADUCTION ENGLISH :

Thanks to you Stephanie to take care of the health of our cats and gave us the best advice so be it :), so I gave to eat caramel tonight around 22H and I gave him some 'wet (RC diabetic) I also pass the injection for tonight and resume my usual schedules of tomorrow morning,

I hear so many different opinions by people not concerned of course but the current society is that we do not know what to think about it we are inking such a ritual that change scares us, that is in any case I will try to good understand the system of the group and post correctly if I get there, thank you in any case to exist I want to save my cat from this dirt of diabetes

@Mel & Caramel: in the absence of other suggestions I think that the wisest is to stick with 4ui this morning, but if you have the opportunity to monitor closely enough it would be good to see if by chance he goes lower than we imagine, and is bouncing.

Sorry Mel, Just woke up.

I think that I would stick with the 4u, since with that dose you have seen Caramel reach blue. So I think it is worth seeing if she will get there again.
I don't think at this moment that we can say that the 4u is too much. Although Nadir (the low point in the glucose cycle) is usually at around +6 in most cats, with lantus, it can sometimes occur later or earlier.
George, my cat, would usually have his nadir at +5, but he nadired as early as +2 and as late as +13. T

I think it is likely that Caramel was lower a little earlier in the night, and then started to come up. The reason that Lantus can keep the numbers down even after 12hours can be due to a number of things.
• the depot
• duration
(I have to go and feed my animals, but I will come back and explain those two terms above, I will not be around this afternoon, as I have to go and pick up a cat that has had an operation to mend his broken leg, but this morning I can check in on you, we are on the same time zone)

So today, my suggestion would be to
• test,
• if you are comfortable with the number you get, give 4u
• and then start by getting a +2,

if you post with the numbers I will try and look out for you and we can take it from there. You can tag me in your new thread by writing @Gill & George so then you can be sure that I will see it.

Has Caramel started eating the new dry food? or is she still using the old one?

Traduction

Abientot

@Gill & George thanks! Some info-by-proxy as @Mel & Caramel is out and I have the answers to some of the questions.

She gave him his 4ui shot this morning (don't know what the AMPS was) and then had to go out, so no +2. She'll be back around noon. He hasn't had a food change, she is still waiting for the order to arrive. He got RC Diabetic wet food last night.

As a reminder, the 4ui dose is the result of a guess, it wasn't reached via any proper method.

When you say he saw blue with 4ui, are you referring to the blue on 15th Jan (coming down from 2 cycles on 6ui after 2 others on 2ui and a skipped shot) or the blue yesterday morning at +15?

I was actually wondering how to interpret that blue yesterday. Did he go lower during the PM cycle and was he coming up? He hadn't had his food, so that could explain sliding down. Or could he have a very late nadir?

FR:
@Gill & George merci!

Merci

The blue I am referring to is the one at +15 yesterday.. The one on the 15th is less informative, with the dose changes at around that time and the resulting changes in Depot, it doesn't tell us much.
Yes I know, I was bearing in mind that Caramel has been on 4u dose for the last 7 cycles, and there is a good amount of data.

Impossible to say which at the moment. His numbers may also have been quite flat. At cycle 6 of the 4u we would expect the depot to be full and to see the full extent of the dose. George would usually show me by cycle 4, but some cats take a little longer (that's one of the reasons we wait at least 6 cycles before deciding to take the dose up on TR, more on SLGS, especially when a cat is still eating dry food).

Hi Mel. I think I understand how to follow your topic other than the link.

We must fill people follow and put the names of the people we want to follow. And click in messages. That's what I did for Kailee. Now I just have to remember how to get back to people follow
