Nice numbers for Gabby!!

Gizmo was driving me crazy by scratching on the rug in my bedroom. This is a rug that I adore and was not inexpensive. So, like a good cat mom, I got a "down" scratcher for him. (Note that there is a scratching post in the bedroom which he will use when he's moved to do so.) The scratcher came with catnip so I figured it was a good way to get him interested. The scratcher is called a "coliseum" (at least on the TinyKittens site) because it's round and it dips in the center, and sits on very low legs. Gizmo was very happy. Within seconds, he managed to tip the scratcher over and scatter catnip all over the place and was rolling around in the stuff. Gabby, who apparently can sniff out catnip from rooms away, walked over him and curled up on the scratcher and any time Gizmo moved a muscle, growled at him. At the moment, she's curled up on the coliseum taking a snooze. I'm not sure whether she's appropriated the scratcher because she likes it or because she likes catnip.

Since her arthritis, Neko now prefers the "down" scratchers too. And the ones with nip in them are divine! Like me, time to get a second one for the other cat.

Heh heh. Once again, Gabby shows who is the top cat in the house! I'd agree with Wendy that a second one might be needed. Cinco, too, prefers horizontal surfaces to scratch. My carpet was at his mercy until I got a scratching mat, and the smart cat that he is, once I showed it to him, he started using it and has not touched the carpet since!
