Flash continues to be fine w/a dosage of 1 unit of insulin, which I realize is a large drop from the 5 he was a month ago. Removing deli meat for a treat and swapping it for a true chicken breast chunk has removed everything "bad" from his diet. I'm stunned my vet didn't have me try this when he first had this issue. Would have been much better for his health though I realize there is a conflict of interest for them, since I'm not seeing them much or ordering diabetic cat food from them anymore, so obviously less money for them coming in. It's truly scary how many pet owners are literally making their animals sick by not at least testing sometimes, I realize that now. Thanks for everyone's support on this forum.

It IS amazing after we're part of this group for a little while how much we know, that unfortunately our vets did not know. Selling that high carb food...no advice on home testing...little hope...it's really sad...however there are some - although I haven't had the pleasure of meeting one yet - who are informed and supportive.

And yes, the sad fact is that they have had very little training in feline diabetes...and even less keeping up with the literature over the years...they simply do not have time to focus on what they perceive as a 'rare' and mostly fatal illness in cats. At least that's what they think...little do they know how many lives have been saved here on this forum...
