The pred and cerenia never really made Jones eat. With the IBD - it is a constant thing to get him to eat his required calorie intake hence the appy stims.

I would actually ask to see if you can get an appy stimulant if she isn't eating.

Appy vines being sent.

Cerenia is an anti-emetic (anti-nausea) plus has anti-inflammatory properties I guess it could be considered an appy stimulant by controlling vomiting - but many times, cyproheptadine or mirtazapine need to be added as specific appetite stimulants (in addition to the zolfram for nausea). It is a constant battle, Angela. I no longer have any hesitation to popping zolfran/cyproheptadine at the first sign Murphy's appy is off

But especially because she is on insulin, she really needs to eat. Which med is best is debatable - ECID. Many people like mirtazapine but I like cyproheptadine. Mirt has more side effects, I think - and didn't seem to help Murphy. Maybe you can read about both and decide which one. Cyproheptadine is an anti histamine - I have heard some people say that giving their cat zyrtec also increases their appy. Murphy has taken zyrtec for months on end, without helping his appy.

CBD oil is having excellent with IBD kitties that need appy stimulant. It’s natural so it’s not as harsh on their bodies as the other prescription drugs. Only a few drops are needed. This is the brand showing good success (olive oil “flavor”). I use it for other things but I’ve also seen a great improvement in his mobility and alertness.

the better one is cyproheptadine...

and while he is writing prescriptions, ask for him to write one for ondansetron too. It's a human prescription. Many vets have not used it yet. The ondansetron dose would be 1-4 mg every 8-12 hours. Ask for the 4 mg pills and start with 1/4 of a pill twice a day .....

You don't want to give just a appy stimulant to a nauseous cat as it can lead to food aversions.

The ondansetron really can make a difference for cats.
