Carol in Chicago

Member Since 2017
We made the trip back from Northern WI to Chicago yesterday. It was sad to close up the summer house for the season. I always get depressed when everything is put away and winterized. Fall color is near peak up north. The drive south was like a color story as the vivid red, orange and yellow slowly faded to mostly green over the 5 hour trip.

The first order of business for today was to restock supplies. Fresh off my huge win with the Lantus coupon, I wasn't ready to find Relion Confirm strips on clearance at Walmart. The box of 100 that is normally $35.88 was $25 today! :D I really hope this doesn't mean they are phasing them out... Just double checked the website and they are still for sale at $35.88 online, so I'll keep a lookout for those lovely yellow clearance stickers in the stores. :)

Sending prayers to all kitties and beans in need.

Welcome home Carol! Glad you are safe and sound. And it looks Rosie must be a champion traveler.

I always get a bit blue when summer ends, but this summer was so wet and /or hot as h-e-double hockey sticks that I feel like I got ripped off this year.

Welcome back Carol. How's Rosie doing? Under a unit of juice, wow.

Thanks Paul, I think she is doing OK. We have an ongoing battle with constipation, but I think she is "working it". I did up her lactulose again to keep ahead of the problem and I think that helped. I would like her to gain a little weight, but she isn't eating as much as she has in the past, so I worry.

I have mixed feelings about the significant drop in her insulin requirements. I should be happy because it could indicate she is getting better, but I'm worried there is something else wrong. The vet hasn't mentioned anything like cancer, but there is something causing a recurring infection. We can beat it back with AB's for a time, but it has repeatedly come back. Right now she is on a pulsed course of Orbax (one dose every 3 days) and due now for blood work to re-check.

I am continuing to take unearned reductions. Tonight she has dropped down to .5U based on a low pre-shot and the fact I can't stay up late because I'm still tired from the trip yesterday. .5U is just shocking to me given her requirements were as high as 5U in August. While we know constipation is a major issue that has had an effect on her BG numbers, I find it hard to believe the numbers could swing by that much.

So... that's the latest. I have been restocking everything and today I put in my first order to allivet - so thanks for that additional $$ saving tip!

Wow...that's a great deal!! Did you check the expiration date on the strips?

Yes - These are stamped with 07/2019 so I'm thinking that's good. I'll start the hunt at other nearby stores tomorrow. Hope you get to see some pretty colors this year outside on the trees. Since China's spreadsheet is so very boring, you have to seek out exciting colors somewhere! ;)
