Good day -
Tina gets to visit the vet this afternoon for blood work. I will also discuss (again) adding a thyroid med for her now hypothyroid condition (HyperT overtreated). My notes from Marje's comments yesterday are going with me - she and a few forum members could train some veterinarians on complete FD health:) It's stressful trying to help your vet do a better job for you and kitty. I like the lady I'll see today; she knows our history well - especially the part about me not being informed of high BG back in February.

I just got back from yet another eye exam to prep for the second cataract surgery on Friday. I look silly - one eye hugely dilated! Cat house almost redone; adding pretty touches now.
Safe surfing lovely kitties:cat: Have a great day, Beans.

Paws crossed. You know, my regular vet worked with the vet that did the I131 to be sure my Gussie’s thyroid levels stayed stable. They kept him at about 1.3-1.4. I know Dyana took Her kitty, Ginger, to HyPurr Cat for I131 treatment by Dr. Peterson who is a renowned endocrine specialist and he followed Ginger every few months for quite some time. Her thyroid levels also dropped and he gave her several months to even out but then started her on a low dose of thyroid med. Tina is quite a long period post I131.

Good luck on the cataract surgery!! We also have a catio; we turned one of our patios into it and there is a door from the library into the catio and also a window from a guest bathroom. We call the window the “escape hatch” for many reasons :woot::smuggrin::joyful:

Good luck on the vet visit and let me know when you have the labs.

I'm feeling a little happy and hopeful after our vet visit.
Systolic Blood pressure (Doppler) is 120mmHg - perfect!
Urine specific gravity was 1.020, no protein (about two weeks ago) They said it's fine, but I read it should be between 1.008 and 1.012
Hematocrit was 40.3 in December - it was missing on last blood work in July, because something was broken at the lab. So it was blown off in July. They are sorry about not getting this resolved. (Below 25 is anemic)
Thyroid - I was promised by the tech, after she talked with the doctor, they would do what needed to be done for her thyroid, even if they had to research to get it done.
I am supposed to get a call tomorrow morning with all results (CBC/Chem/Thyroid/Free T4/Urinalysis); then it will be emailed to me post haste. I believe this particular vet will work better with us. They also will have a new cardiologist at their location on certain days, if that becomes a need.
I hope to have a clear understanding of Tina's complete health soon - and will develop an action plan/calendar.
I'll also add everything to her lab sheet tomorrow.
I'm praying her kidney health has not declined; would prefer miraculous recovery:joyful:

Mucho thanks to @Marje and Gracie for all her time, and my pre-vet counsel:bighug:

You’re welcome and I just want to clarify a few things. First, I’m thrilled her BP is excellent!!! They did Doppler and took it 3-5 times, yes?

Normal USG is above 1.040 so, no 1.020 is not fine. It indicates she is not concentrating her urine. You definitely don’t want it in the 1.008-1.012 range; that is very dilute and, unless the cat has had a lot of fluids, indicates it isn’t able to concentrate it’s ruined so kidneys are not working as they should be.

Hematocrit is excellent now. As it approaches 30%, you need to take action. Below 30% is early anemia. Below 20% requires aggressive measures. There are ways to keep it up near 30% for as long as possible.

It’s possible thyroid issues can affect her kidney levels. If the thyroid is too high, it is called “running hot” and the creatinine might appear to be normal when it’s not. A hot thyroid causes more blood to be perfused through the kidneys but this is actually hard on them. Likewise, a low thyroid can cause kidneys to not be getting enough blood and the creatinine can increase. Her USG being so low indicates she might be in early CKD but it also depends when the urine was taken. Just as in people, the urine becomes more dilute during the day the more we drink. The best sample for checking USG is the first sample of the morning when no fluids have been given. If it’s normal, then we know the kitty is able to concentrate urine.

It sounds like a really great vet visit but there are just some parameters to be aware of. Paws crossed on improved labs.

Thanks:)
I was happy about the BP, however I will ask them how many times they checked it (I'll even ask what each test was), and yes, it was Doppler.
I am saving all the information you have shared, and adding to my Tina binder.

Your warnings are highly appreciated, and printed for reference.
