I did a ketone test for the first time in weeks. Negative! I was scooping his litter and he patiently waited for me to finish before going in to do his business.
On some off topic stuff but still cat related:
My friend's cat, Sesame, was having some odd behaviours: back legs would give up and he would yowl. He did go to the vet and was hospitalized overnight. They did all the usual tests/treatments - not pancreatitis, not diabetes, rads showed nothing, etc. The vet just said it's a mystery! And months went by and he had symptoms again but this time, his left leg was giving out. I immediately thought: seizures. Told my friend to go to the better ER and they ended up getting an appt for an MRI and neuro consult.
The MRI came back with basically a diagnosis of epilepsy? They called it right lateralizing encephalopathy. They're also going to test the spinal fluid to see if the inflammation in the brain is caused by fungal or cancer (lymphoma). They sent him home with 5 mg of pred and clindamycin until the spinal fluid results come in.
When she told me these symptoms, I was really hoping, the best case scenario, that it was maybe just a really large poop... and I even had a sort of... gleeful, guilty thought that, hey! if it's diabetes, we could take this diabetes journey together!
I'm a little miffed about the first vet. You'd think after hospitalizing a patient for those symptoms and having come up with nothing, you'd follow up... and even me, an uneducated, crazy cat mom, could connect the dots to think something's wrong neurologically...
Anyway, I referred her to where I work and hopefully she has a better primary vet experience. I hope Sesame's condition is curable. He already had two focal seizures this morning!!!
