Sat condo

Super late condo today, but figured I should get it in, even if it is short. Had a weird green Sunday am, should have gotten another test to verify, I think it might have been a bad strip. Still chugging along in the pinks. Got a new autofeeder on the way for Jack vs the autofeeder part 2. I will be sure to give the play by play.

@julie & punkin (ga)

The RVC trial is part of a study. The medication is oddly used to terminate pregnancies in cats already. It works on the pituitary gland so the RVC is hopeful it will reduce the growth hormones being released by the tumor. They want to track the IGF-1 to monitor the response to the drug, I'm not sure on the specific action of the carbergoline, but trust the vets have done their homework. A lot of tests at first then at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months if I recall right. Since the IGF blocks the insulin from getting into the cells, any reduction of the IGF should allow more of the insulin to do its job.

Hope all are doing well.

The IGF-1 is also what causes soft tissue growth. The IGF-1 numbers can still remain high after SRT, so any way to reduce them is good.

Adding onto Julie's comments about arthritis treatments - I think of it as a three pronged approach. The first step is helping the joints themselves. that is glucosamine such as Cosequin and hyaluronic acid liquid (I tried Hyaflex though got the dog size for econmy) or Adequan shots, around monthly. Next up is helping inflammation. A simple solution is fish oil added to food, I used Nordic Naturals. Another product that worked quite well for us for inflammation was Duralactin. After that, the third approach was handling pain. Like punkin, Neko got buprenorphine twice a day. Before starting it, Neko got quite withdrawn. There is some thought that acrocats might get headaches like human acros do too. Whatever it was, the bupe got Neko up and interacting with us again. We also tried gabapentin, but it just made her sleepy. Some acros do well on gaba so it's well worth a trial. And last but not least, Neko got regular acupuncture treatments that really seemed to limber her up for a while after it. Neko only got a few sticks, the majority of the treatment was with an acupuncture laser. Acupunctue vetty showed me how to do acupressure, so I supplemented with that daily to help the accupuncture.

Jack - green again please, only without the surprises this time.
