Jack made it through the V-E-T appointment. He was a little ornery when she checked him for arthritis, but said his range of motion seemed good and did not seem to have significant arthritis. If I wanted the next test should be x-ray's since she said cats are tougher to check since they tense up.

Due to him being off for a bit we did a full senior panel with the specfPL test as well to check for p'titis, she initially wasn't going to do a panel, but with my notes decided it would be a good idea which I agree with.

The big one was getting her on board for the trial. She agreed, even though she was not familiar with the drug. Next step is finding where in the US to get it compounded and get in touch with the RVC to let them know to expect her response soon.

I found it interesting that she considers his current numbers "pretty well controlled", I think the litterbox would say otherwise. She pushed a bit for a fructosamine test, but I turned that down due to the data I have in the SS, I don't think it would offer any good data.

He is still acting mopey and wants to lay down more then usual, but is still eating drinking and gives a decent purr when he gets some attention. Hoping for good bloodwork results on Thursday and that he perks up before the weekend festivities, for my mood and his!

Hope all the kitties and beans are doing well today.

ETA: Heart and lungs sounded good as well to her.

Just want to give a HUGE GENERIC thank you to all the members of the board here. I go into the vet's office with more confidence, knowledge and data to share with her. I value her opinion and I think our visits are more productive when I am familiar with what we are discussing!!!!

Diamondback Drugs is one of the best compounding pharmacies in the US. I'd start there, they are in Scottsdale, AZ and most of us get the drugs from them. It's great she's willing to get on board with the trial!

Paws crossed for good BW and if something is off it's an easy fix. Sure hope our Capt. Jack perks up soon. Give him extra scritches.

I think so many of the vets think that a cat under 300 is controlled  And probably because most of their clients Beans don't test like we do.

Glad she is going to be onboard with the trial and hope you can start soon.

When you say Jack is off with being mopey, has is his eating okay? Can he jump up onto the bed? Hope whatever it is will be an easy fix.

Paws crossed for good blood work results. Sounds like a good vetty visit. I agree vet visits are so much better when you can ask informed questions.

At one point, Neko got a little mopey and I thought it might be to do with her arthritis pain. There is also some thought that acrocats get headaches as human acros do. Anyway, we started Neko on twice daily buorenorphine and it completely changed things around. She got a lot more interactive and playful after starting bupe.

Good news on the vet on board with the trial. There are a couple other on line compounding pharmacies and once I am back home I will try looking them up.

Eating is definitely off, but he still eats most of his food. It just takes a few hours, not a few seconds right now:D He can make it a foot or two up, but since he has been "off" he has stayed on the floor. He comes and waits for me to pick him up for a sink drink, then waits for me to put him back down.

The vet seemed very surprised I mentioned Bupe, she said it is more palliative care kind of med and would cost around $50 a day for Jack's size. Didn't seem right to me, but I couldn't argue with my current knowledge. I'll save that conversation for another day. Seems to me it should be cheaper based on goodrx. Like any pain med the dose amount makes a big difference between taking the edge off and putting them in a stupor.

Since he is eating and drinking and bloodwork was done, I'm in a monitoring mode. If he gets worse I can always go back and get some appy stimulant and possibly push a bit more on the bupe. I'll have to try to find an average dose size for a cat to get a better idea on cost and effectiveness.

Paws crossed he is just feeling a little crappy from some acute p'titis, it has been awhile since he was mopey, so a small flare up wouldn't surprise me. It does seem less severe then previous bouts. I'd guess the more frequent smaller meals are helping.

Sending feel better vines to Jack. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Could that hard right turn we took into winter be affecting his joints? I'm having terrible trouble with mine since this cold snap hit...
Feel better Jack!:bighug::bighug::bighug:
He is really gorgeous!

I wish, shorts and sandals weather here still:(

I'll probably pick up some cosequin to try. We discussed adequin and X-rays, but she didn't think it was there yet.
My GA Buster got arthritis early, well before age 10 as he was a big cat, well past fluffy...we did the adequin injection series, it did help. In later years I also gave Zeel injections prescribed by my combo vet. They I feel helped a ton.
Hoping Jacks joints feel better and that he perks up:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
So funny how different the weather can be place to place...hard to believe it's all one country!:bighug:
I used consequently too and. sea algae really helped weirdly enough!

Other compounding on line pharmacies are BCP in Houston and Roadrunner.

Prefilled syringes of bupe from the vet are expensive. I got a vial compounded in chicken or fish flavour. Three months supply cost about $100. I didn't shop around that much. As a narcotic, it's a controlled drug so a bit more hastle to get the prescription done properly, but worth the cost savings. Neko was "palliative" on bupe for almost three years. Many acros are on it for years. Some acrocats do well on gabapentin instead. I tried it, but it just made her sleepier and didn't seem to help that much. ECID.

I would try the Cosequin and maybe fish oil to start if you think there might be a bit of arthritis. Neko never got X-rays until very recently, but vetty could feel it. Actually, so could I.:(

I would try an anti nausea medication before trying an appy stimulant. Often that's all Neko needed.

I'm definitely going to try a few things, his mobility has dropped noticeably in the past 3-6 months. Start with supplements and work up from there. Good info on the non active ingredients of some of the sups.

I'll probably get some info put together to discuss with the vet on the next visit... like acro cats and headaches... If I can present a good reason she has been good so far with listening to logic.

Sure would be nice if the furball could at least not try to hide the pain.
