Missed a day in all the holiday commotion. I broke Jacks nice string of green amps, I had christmas dinner at relatives and he was a little low for my liking so I figured I'd carb him up a little, guess it was a little more then he needed. Oh well, better high numbers for a day then potential hypo. Back in the swing of things and hoping we can get back into those pretty numbers now that he is feeling better.

Currently waiting to hear from Diamondback or Wedgewood(which ever the vet decided to call into) on getting the drug trial medication compounded. After that things will be interesting for a bit I'm sure as we figure out how well he tolerates the medicine and what effect it has on the IGF-1 / insulin needs. Good thing I got more coffee for the espresso maker for christmas!

Vines and hugs to any that need it today.

It's better to be safe. Jack will get back on track. I hope you hear about the compounded medicine soon. I hope you had a good Christmas.

Hoping you are back in the greens for AMPS soon! Will be interesting to see how he does on the new medicine..we are keeping paws crossed it works well!

Time to pump the brakes big boy! Was hoping for a blue today, instead we are hanging out in the lagoon. Looks like it is slowing down, so I'm holding off on food for now, but am ready to if needed. Just when you think it is another ho-hum day, you get a surprise from the meter. Surf safe buddy.

Looks like Jack is being a cat! :D He get any good Christmas presents?
He got his favorite thing in the world..... Food! With lowish numbers and me traveling in the afternoon, he got 2 large snacks. He didn't finish dinner he had so much food during the day, a rare event.
I got some "super" catnip for him which has catnip mixed with silvervine. The local pet store guy always asks about him and gave me a candy cane stuffed with nip, it was in the holiday pic thread.

He is slowing down these days, he normally is hyped up and makes a fool of himself playing in all the wrapping paper, this year he just wasn't in the mood:(. Hopefully we can get his back legs feeling a little better as the numbers come down, the zobaline isn't helping as much as I would like at 3mg a day. The acro also isn't helping the joints either, and paws crossed the trial helps slow any further decline.

The arthritis side effects were the hardest ones for me to see, not all acros get it though. Once you experiment and find treatments for that, he may pick up again. Slowing the growth hormone and insulin growth factor output would be huge. SRT slows the growth hormone (which impacts blood sugar), but not as much the IGF-1 which I seem to remember is what is responsible for the soft tissue growth.

Interesting on the toy with silvervine in it. It's a Japanese vine that didn't used to be so common over here. Their equivalent of catnip. Neko was "meh" on silvervine/matatabi, but you've just reminded me I should pull some out for civie Theo who goes nuts over it.

The vet said he did not have noticeable arthritis at his last visit, but said cats can be difficult to dx since they tense up and that an X-ray would be good if he shows any further decline.

My vet has found arthritis by accident in two other cats when I was getting X-rays done for other things. They are tough critters.
