We are so shocked and saddened to hear of Sootie's sudden passing...holding Sina close in our thoughts and prayers today...
Well, we've had bit of a rough start to today....all should be fine soon, but here's the story: At about 1:00am (20 minutes after I went to bed), we hear a "thumping" out in the hall. Thinking it was a kitty scuffle I got up in a flash. No sign of scuffle - Zen playing by himself, Trix roaming, others snoozing. Gave Trix a small bite to eat then went back to bed. 15 minutes later, thumping again, and I head out again. This time I see it: Trix is scooting her butt big time. This was not your average butt scoot...it was distressing and upsetting her. Now I am WIDE awake. This happened several times over the next couple hours, and I knew right away it was her anal glands. I was hoping she'd be able to settle enough so we wouldn't have to take her to the ER in the middle of the night, and fortunately she did. But, we did take her first thing to our regular vetty.
The good news is the glands were not infected. I was shocked - given her behavior, I was positive she had a rupture (went through that with civvie Zen). But, they were incredibly full...terms like "impressive" and "like a dog" were used by the vet staff

- not something you really want to be known for! They cleaned her out, gave her a butt bath, and while we were there we drew blood and checked her BP. BW will be back tomorrow or so; BP was just a tad high (170), but I have a feeling it was related to all that was going on plus "white coat syndrome". She is already on BP meds...we may or may not increase her dose. We'll see. Our old vetty (same practice, but she left earlier this year) always used 170 as her cut off for white coat syndrome, so Trix is right on the edge there.
I am surprised that with her glands being so full I didn't see any signs of distress sooner than last night. Cats really do hide things so well.
For now, I think she's still having spasms and discomfort from the fullness as well as the procedure, but hopefully she'll be able to snooze it off and wake up feeling refreshed. She smells like baby powder from her butt bath
!
Believe it or not, despite all the trauma, her appy has been nice and strong today. She had a nice hearty pre-vetty breffis, and when we got back she was doing a Mannie Fuds Dance (circling and meowing) while I prepped her snack. She finally curled up in her bed by the heating vent.
I am exhausted. I really didn't sleep at all last night, and I just dozed for maybe an hour before her appointment...I was too afraid to close my eyes and lose sight of her. Just once I would like a stress-free, vet-free vacation/staycation...I swear something always, always comes up. And all of this is completely unrelated to why I was considering taking her yesterday...I guess someone out there really wanted her to go to the vet for some reason!
Prayers to all here...my head is about to drop, so today still might not be the day I manage to catch up, but I am thinking of everyone here....
