This is a GOOD morning here at our house:):cat::)
Woke up to Gussie this morning yowling for food..NOT throwing up! :) and as I waited for him to come back so I could test before I fed I heard him march into the LB..
Back he came and
AMBG 82:D no squinting required:):)
Yes! A LB deposit! One from Jett and one from Gussie!:):):)
Then the best of all he ATE and I mean ATE! Enough that I know his liver should not freak out this morning!:):):):)
Maybe it's the mirt day two or maybe my hope is we turned a corner (ANTI JINX) and if so I will never be without FRiskies ocean whitefish/Tuna pate..
Or maybe because I explained the upcoming vet visit and only remaining options I could see, none of them good;):nailbiting:
He is snuggling and purring next to me. :):):):):)
For this moment in time I have my Gussie back...and that's a wonderful feeling:):bighug:
Thank you all for helping us and supporting us:bighug::bighug:

Hoping it is a safe day for all in LL as we head into new territory as the year ends and a new one begins:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:keeping all very close in my heart:bighug::bighug:

Les, I am sad beyond words that you and Gussie are going through this. And my apologies for being absent these past few days.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ and bushelsful and I mean huge bushelsful to you both that Gus will soon be feeling better.

The higher calorie prescription foods that I've found helpful at such times are the Hill's a/d and the royal canin recovery. Both of course are "crap ingredients" but concentrate huge amounts of calories into a very palatable digestible soft pate and are the kind of smelly that can whet interest even when in small amounts. I have also made slurry (for plate or assist feeding) of it by adding small amounts of baby food squash, baby food pumpkin or plain canned pumpkin . Sometimes a bit of plain baby oatmeal with or instead of the pumpkin or squash. And of course SEB to soothe and, as needed, probiotics. Added enough warm or hot water to increase moisture and food's scent, etc. And if you're adding the baby oatmeal, the hot water helps it to reconstitute itself in the fud.

Hope you are getting some sleep and that you both will have a better day today,
Love, hugs and :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sina

ETA I've just seen Chris's post and second her observations and suggestions about Chicken broth and her way of making it so there's less phosphorus in it.
Also Taffy's mama: yes the a/d is pretty rich but intentionally so. cutting it in the ways you and I described might help 'soften' or balance its richness.

Oh Sina, thank you so very much for taking the time to stop to help when your heart must be still so painful :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Don't even think of apologizing for not being around for a bit, (yes said sternly, and with astonishment tone, wrapped in love and hugs to you:bighug::bighug:)
I will print out the info, gratefully accepted! Will put it by the recipe from Chris:bighug:
The food info on the hi cal food is really helpful, will ask for a RX if needed, if not will pick it up. Need to get to my local rescue to make another donation before year end.
I think Gussie felt the love extended because we have appetite this morning:bighug:
Hugs of gratitude and hugs for your hurting heart Sina...:bighug::bighug:

Woo hoo for you and Gussie and team Gussie! To paraphrase Mr. Rogers: It's a wonderful day in the Universe ❤️:bighug::):bighug:❤️ I hope you're feeling the huge hugs and seeing the big smiles coming your way from our household !
Yes! They are pretty powerful!! Thank you!:bighug::bighug:
Gussie is even making biscuits...he never makes biscuits! Must feel good to have pooped and have a happy stomach :bighug::bighug::cat:

❤️❤️❤️❤️ Les. Thank you. If it weren't that we're bi-coastal, I'd bring by some of my chicken broth stash and the a/d that I picked up at our vet's on Tuesday. I'd be glad to mail it to you (the a/d that is. I don't think the frozen chicken broth would travel well ;) ). Even if you're able to get some locally in the next day or so, at least you'd have a stash for back-up. Love and hugs and yay Gussie and his mama bird Les!

It's not hard to make chicken broth or bone soup to freeze. Nice recipe on IBD website.

Wonderful news about Gussie eating and LB deposit. Here is to him continuing on this path!:cat:

And even better news to see Sina! Not to highjack your thread, but, Sina, still sending you and yours lots of hugs. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
Thank you Bobbie! yep, we're gettin' there slow but I hope steady. Hoping to resume imvolvement with more regularity though may be a bit at a time for awhile (re posting not necessarily intending an inadvertent pun re Gussie's recent LB success though that kind of regularity a boon for all species!) . Love and hugs and scritches and thanks to all and for all!

I looked at so many Chris and they just confused me for whatever reason ( but then again I'm the person who literally filled the house with thick smoke "cooking" bacon yesterday..took a lot of fan action to get rid of that escapade) but your is simple and concise..:bighug::bighug:

While you're out shopping for the ingredients, you might want to add a fire extinguisher to your list - just to be on the safe side. ;)

So happy that Gus is feeling better though!!!

No kidding..and plug my smoke alarm back in..there was literally black smoke pouring out when I opened the sliding door, surprised the neighbors didn't call the fire dept! Btw Costco brand bacon goes from uncooked to smoking on fire burnt in the time it takes to post an email response..
Good news is somehow my calphalon non stick pan from TJ Maxx came thru with flying colors!:woot:

Now because I learned from you guys, I still gave him Zofran and cerenia this morning. Hoping that was the right thing to do cuz it's done. I remember I quit the meds too soon the last time I got excited that he was eating...
He ate a bit more at +2 which is normal behavior for him, and again at +4.

That is so nice of you to offer! Hang on to your stash, paws crossed you won't need it for a very very long time, as you say back up stash is a good thing to have:bighug::bighug::bighug:
du är så väldig snäll!!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Great news. I would give daily Miralax while getting zofran. I did with Max way before diabetes.
Thanks Elise
I stopped it because I was afraid it was contributing to dehydration? Makes sense to continue it tho. He had really runny poop too at the time I stopped it, was afraid he had same colitis issues as Jett..will ask the vet.
I did also in thinking on pre poop, sorry, get him to eat some pumpkin the day before mixed into his food. I'll bet that helped too!

SOOOOOO happy to see that Gussie is eating!! I know how worrying that can be. Good boy Gussie!! AND... an LB deposit too!! Now, that IS a good day!
Sending (((HUGS))) from NJ for you both!

I am SO PLEASED to read that Gussie is finally eating for you!!!! And I know what a relief it is for you!
Happy dance happening here too!!:)
Keep it up Gus!

Don't be worried about making chicken broth Les. It is easy, I make it all the time for Sheba and use the meat for her.
It is just chicken bones and water and simmer for 6 to 8 hours. Drain and save fluid. Refrigerate and skim off fat next morning. Put jelly into ice trays and use whenever. I am never without them and use daily.

Hey Gus...this is your old friend Sheba.........glad your belly ache is getting better.........mine is too!
Feeling sick is horrible eh? Try and eat up your fuds. I am trying as my mamabean she is getting too many grey hairs worrying about me. Your Ozzie friend Sheba.:cat:

That's what I do. Super easy especially in slow cooker. Tsp in every breakfast meal.

ETA I would keep the meds going a few days to make sure apply stayed good then stop just one at a time.

In a men's mind : I've the same feeling that you have if a World war II plane you've found in the jungle
you tough would need a ground up restoration but has his engine running again after 70 years !
:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

(Don't see Gussie as a wreck, no worry) :)

He needs to yet. Being "off" zaps their energy.

ETA. This should have been "rest" not yet.
