February 9, 2019 Condo - A day at the beach turns into the bounce from hell....

Good morning all,
giphy.gif

I am absolutely flabbergasted, dismayed, and a bit horrified with Lou's AMPS this morning. I got 534 originally, and thought this must absolutely be wrong, but when I retested I got 544. This is basically the same number he was at when he was diagnosed (the second test was higher than when he was diagnosed). Why would a long-term diabetic who bounces to pinks, and recently to reds on occasion all of a sudden bounce so high? He's previously gone two cycles without insulin and wasn't this high. I reviewed his spreadsheet, he's only been in the 500s once before since diagnosis, and that was in November 2017 when he wasn't eating and I couldn't give insulin. Come to find out he had a UTI with struvite crystals.

I know our kitties are more than their BGs, but I'm trying not to feel overwhelmed or inescapably sad about this. If it took him 6 full cycles to clear a bounce to the 400s, how long is it going to take him to come down from this one? 6? 8? 10?? I'm sure I haven't had any furshots lately, and even contraband hasn't ever made him go this high before... I feel so stupid being sad over one bad BG number, but it's a pretty awful number, and usually Lou is not so cruel to me.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and your kitties stay safe. I'm going to try not to wallow and enjoy my Sunday. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

So sorry about that AMPS, Amanda. This is a crazy high bounce!

I see similarities between Lou and @JoyBee&Ravan. (I believe Ravan is also on Lev). Ravan's bounces seemed to last several cycles, and then he'd be in beautiful green numbers for a cycle. Now, Ravan's green cycles are getting longer and longer, and the bounce cycles are getting shorter and not going as high.
If you take a look at Ravan's SS, do you see the same thing I see?

Ravan is also on CBD oil. I don't know if that has contributed to his nicer ss.

I hope Lou comes down and stays away from the reds and blacks really soon. I can only imagine how frustrating this is for you. :bighug:

How is Lou feeling? Does he seem off in any way? It's always good to check and make sure nothing seems off. However, it does look like a big bounce. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

So far, the only thing amiss with him is he's starving. He's been begging me for food since about an hour after his AM meal. He's on the lookout for contraband at this rate. I've had to shoo him from the countertops twice this morning already, and I did dishes to make sure there wasn't anything there he could get into. Now he's sitting right next to me trying to butter me up into giving him food. I'm tempted to feed him a bit more to counteract the hunger, but I don't know if that will harm more than help at this point.

Things can change so fast from one day to the next! Ravan & his sister Peggy Sue were both fine yesterday eating & playing. Today not so good.
Sorry to see Lou's High BG I know how terrible that makes you feel :( It seems sometimes we never know what causes those huge bounces?
Have you done any more tests,to see where he's going? At least he's hungry,that's better than not wanting to eat at all !

I hope your day turns out just fine :):bighug:wishing healing.jpg

Oh my Lou! Amanda, we can all relate to feeling overwhelmingly upset when we see a number that high.

Check the expiration date on the test strips just to rule that out. And check him for ketones , when Bubba was throwing them he would eat anything in site.

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

+7 = 329
Ketones = 0.3

Well thankfully he's come down to the 300s, and I feel like I can breathe again (funny how that works, eh?) I checked his strips, and they expire in May 2020. I went ahead and checked his ketones (Thanks Bobbie!) and thankfully they're negative. He's still hungry, but nothing like he was this morning. Just more of "I'm bouncing" hunger. I had been thinking of feeding him more than his usual meals, but I've just been feeding his normal fare at his usual times.... Oh jeez. I just fed him and now he's already staring at me waiting for more food. I may just throw him another 1/4 can for the fun of it. Happy cat happy life and all that. :p

Sorry your seeing such high numbers I would feel the same as you do, it’s nerve wracking, come on Lou show is what you can do
