    Yesterday's Condo

    Good morning, Everyone!

Basil is sitting up on the back of "his" armchair in the living room watching the snow again. He seems happy and purry this morning and ate all his breakfast. He also ate all hos overnight food, and I left out an extra cube because he seemed extra hungry (1 cube=1/6 can FF). Until a couple of days ago, DH was waking up every night and picking up Bail's overnight food bowl by +10, but lately, we both have been sleeping through. So we don't know for sure if he is eating too late. Must set an alarm. :(

Question: This is about Basil and just a general wondering. When cats get down to tiny doses, like Basil's 0.1, can that amount of insulin really cause them to become hypo? In other words, are they any more likely to become dangerously hypo at tiny doses than they are off insulin altogether? It seems as if the likelihood would be much higher at higher doses.

    Have a great day, everybody!

Lydia--When Moonie was on 0.1 for months & months, Jojo told me it's almost impossible to hypo on 0.1 dose...
You got a blue in the last 2 days also, and you have beautiful 70's-90's number--I think there are no worries here.
What a beautiful SS!! You are getting there for real now!!!--Whoo Hoooo!!! dancing_cat flip_cat dancing_cat

I sure can't answer that question, so I'll just wish Basil a nice day on the chair, watching the snow and eating lots of good cubes of food.

We gave Basil a test vacation today. Just the AMPS of 87 and now the PMPS of 80.

He's been fine all day. We got nearly a foot of snow and I think Basil watched every flake come down today.

    Basil looks fantastic.

I don't think you have to worry much about hypo, at least not a symptomatic one. His dose is so low that low carb food should be able to take care of any low numbers.

Just saw this. Eeee. AAAAAaaaaa. Ummmmm. EEEEeeek! Really?

    Wowsers!

    We're game.

But can someone point me to the game plan? I have been afraid to read too much about it all for fear of jinxing and I just assumed we'd be on insulin for a long time somehow. Do we do a lot of testing in the OTJ trial? I ask because I am wondering if we want to time it for when we have coverage day and noght if we need to do that.

Wow! I'm doing a triple axle lutz or something!

    Re: 2/16 Basil AMPS=87 PMPS=80

    woo-hooooo, congratulations!!!

    Here's what you do:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

    Good luck!

    Thanks!

Okay. We're doin' it next green preshot.

Now, I just have to be sure my husband doesn't give me the shot instead or something.

Off to test Mr Basil for his bedcheck test. I shall return!

(She skips off singing, stumbles a couple of times and remembers she is way too old to skip much anymore.)

Thank you for all the good wishes!

Basil scored an 88 on his PM+4 tonight. He is now dancing with his banana and looking for trouble. Or food. He'll take either one.

I just want you to know, Jill, that your post caused me to eat three chocolate cookies.

Have I said thank you? Prolly not enough. :)

Lydia, you can eat cookies tonight, but what most people do during their countdown is SLEEP! No more middle of the night pokus.
