Morning all,
Late posting today. Got to work at about 9 am and at about 9:15 am my son called me and said Flame sounded congested and seemed like he was having trouble breathing. Said his breaths were shallow and while it looked like he was inhaling thru his nose he was exhaling thru his mouth - somewhat open mouthed. I was terrified he was going to crash again. Eric sounded nervous.
I called my boss and told him I had to leave and would work from home today. Thank goodness I have an understanding boss.

I flew home - thank goodness I only passed 1 state trooper and saw him before I passed him so I could slow down. By the time I got here his breathing was a bit better - Eric was watching him while I was en-route. I picked him up and I could hear some upper respiratory rattling and his nose sounded stuffy again. I decided to give him another dose of the Flovent inhaler. He was not happy about that, but got enough puffs into him for a dose. So far, so good. His breathing seems better, he's gotten up to nibble a bit - he's sleeping now.

He was really hungry on Friday, Saturday and yesterday AM, but his appy is a bit off today. Gave him 1/2 can of FF beef/chicken this morning to start and 1/2 can of Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken (which he used to eat and is now not so crazy for) with the binder and Methyl-b12 (1/2 cap).

Wondering if he's still bouncy from low numbers yesterday or if his BG went up at +2.5 because of stress of breathing issues.

At least I'm home now, so I can watch him. Thank God Eric was home today and caught this. It's so hard when they have so many health issues all at once and you're trying to juggle and balance it all and then you have to LEAVE them alone all day while you go to work, never knowing for sure if they're going to be OK. It is nerve wracking and heart wrenching.

Hope all the precious kitties and wonderful beans have a calm, peaceful day today. Prayers and vines for all who may need them today. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sorry about the breathing scare, I know them all too well :( Watch him now that the pred has been stopped. If he needs the pred to breath then he needs it and you'll have to adjust the insulin accordingly. When Doodles is having breathing issues he doesn't eat as much either. I believe Flame is bouncing from those blues. It can take 4-6 cycles for the bounce to clear. Even with those blues unless he does something in the next few days I think he'll need an increase. Just wait and see.

Hope the rest of the day is uneventful.

I'm so sorry about the breathing scare. I'm glad your son was there and you were able to get home. If he's congested do you think some Zyrtec would help? Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Carla,
This boy is about to give me heart failure!! Between the unexpected drop yesterday (though seeing blues was kind of wonderful), the breathing issues today... Oy vey!! I had already given him is 2.5 mg of Zyrtec this morning before I went to work. That's why I couldn't understand why this was happening. He's been doing great since on the Zyrtec. I considered giving him another 2.5 mg (the recommended dose is 5 mg, but he's been doing well on 2.5mg) but I tried the Flovent inhaler first. So far, no further episodes but I am watching him like a hawk.
Have a good day my friend!! :bighug:

Well, he's coming down a bit now. I think that 311 was due to the breathing issue this morning. Eric tested him while I was still on my way. He's having a rough day and I think he may still be bouncing from the blues yesterday, so we'll see where this cycle takes us.

Oh Donna, a scary morning for you, Eric and Flame. Oy vey is right! And so great that your boss is so understanding and that you have a job you can do from home. I hope the flovent will help him and that there won't be a repeat and you won't have to use the pred again but if you have to , you have to and you'll adjust the insulin to the pred.

Fingers and paws crossed for a calmer afternoon. And so glad you made it home safely and without a ticket. Eric sounds like the best son ever!

Fingers and paws crossed for a calmer afternoon.

So far, he's been OK with the breathing, thank goodness, but he's still "off" today. Sleeping a lot more than he has been. His appy is way off today. Could be that he didn't like my food choice today b/c he ate some baby food earlier with is Coseqin in it (forgot to give this morning). He'll eat the Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken when I first put it down but then won't touch it. He tends to lick all the liquid and then the chicken gets dry so I put more water in it but must not taste as good. Been trying to entice him to eat his FF by putting chicken dust on it (from freeze dried chicken treats) and he'll eat a little. He probably only ate about 1/4 can of Weruva and about 1/2 can of FF today all day.

Thanks Bobbie! I am very fortunate to have an understanding boss and a son who truly loves Flamie as much as I do. Eric is an awesome young man. Very proud of him!! I don't know what I'm going to do when he moves out. I am dreading that day. It's hard enough for me to manage all this now, but he backs me up when I need him - with Flame, with my dad and with my mom before she passed. I'm blessed!

The pred increases the appy too so maybe since he is off, you are seeing a distinction and hopefully his appy will pick up and level out. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Very flat cycle today... uh oh! Still not wanting to eat much. Has only eaten about 1/3 - 1/2 of what he normally eats all day. Concerned about the appy if he has an active cycle tonite. He just doesn't look well to me. Seems really tired, not talking a lot, sleeping more than he has been just seems to not have much energy or interest in anything today. Not a good day today. Worried about having to go to the office tomorrow and leave him.

Only thing he seems to like today is baby food. Tried going back to just FF tonite to see if he'd eat some FF Chicken - he did eat some when I first put it down and then stopped.

Just gave him 100 ML SQ fluids cause he seemed dehydrated as well. Gave him some baby food with his Methyl-B12 to keep him busy while my son and I gave fluids. He did eat all of that - about 1.5 tsp mixed w/ water. It's like he so tired today that everything is an effort for him. Noticed he wasn't drinking much, so had Eric fill bowl with fresh water and we put it in front of him on the kitchen bench and he drank quite a bit. It's like, if you put it in front of him, he'll drink it.

So, I normally give him 1/4 of a 10mg Famotadine tab in the AM. I am getting the feeling his tummy is bothering him or he is having some reflux or something. I noticed a couple of times today he did this "hard swallow" thing. How much famotadine can you give in a day? That is his usual dose.

A while ago, my vet gave me some cyproheptadine as an appy stim, but I also noticed that this is an antihistamine. He is already taking Zyrtec - 1/4 pill (2.5mg). Could I give him the cyproheptadine even though he's taken the Zyrtec if his appy does not improve by tomorrow? He is eating, just not enough and the baby food doesn't have everything he needs in it, so he's not getting a "complete" meal.

I'm also planning to give him some SEB in a while. Have to wait a bit since he did eat 'some' food with binder in it and I put his B-12 in the baby food when we gave fluids. I usually mix the SEB in baby food with lots of water and he normally laps it up.

Rough day today. When he's not feeling well, my heart hurts.

I sure hope all our friends in L&L Land are doing well today! Sending some love and :bighug::bighug::bighug: to everyone!!

sorry for the rough day... i understand the heart hurts all too well as all on this board do... we work so hard to help our little guys and sometimes it still doesnt feel like enough.. i hope tomorrow is a much easier day for you both:bighug::bighug:

Just gave some SEB with some watered down baby food. He lapped that up. Really worried about him not eating his regular food and not finding anything today that seemed to tempt him. Issue is, if he's not eating the food, he's not getting the binders, B-12, etc. which is counter productive for his kidney issues.
I'm exhausted today. Haven't been away from this computer all day - first work and then emailing my vet, researching more stuff on CKD, etc.
Usually do a before bed test but did a +2 tonite to see where he was. Might get one more test in but hate to keep poking since his numbers are high.

If anyone can answer the questions in my previous post (#16) it would be appreciated!! Thanks all!!

I'm not sure about the famotadine, but I don't think it's a good idea to give too much of it. I think you need to call your vet and ask about taking the cyproheptadine and Zyrtec together. You could put the questions in today's condo and add the ? icon. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
