yesterday

Looks like bumping him up to a fat 1 is lowering his numbers - he had a blue pmps last night, and I'm a bit concerned about today's cycle - please don't go hypo on me, Murphy

My Mom was improved yesterday (cognitively) - if it continues, she's scheduled to go to a rehab facility tomorrow - she can move her left arm and leg, but can't walk and she uses her left hand very awkwardly. I'm a little worried about the move as she still in on an IV because she is not eating or drinking - just a tiny pittance. I don't know how carefully rehab facilities monitor for things like that, Plus I think she is going to be extremely depressed
well, one day at a time - I'm less a wreck than I was a few days ago. Thanks to everyone for the support

just please Murphy - don't go low on me today

((Carol)) I'm glad to hear of the improvement with your Mom but it's has to be so very hard. The vines and prayers for her will continue and sure hope the rehab facility is attentive enough. Luckily she has you to advocate and make sure it all works out. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Murphy, nothing silly please buddy. He's pretty flat but no harm in trying to give him a surf snack early.

Murphy, time to slow down - your mama bean has enough on her plate already.

I am so sorry, Carol, that just sounds incredibly stressful. I am glad that your mom is a bit better, but it just baffles me that they would consider discharging her to a rehab facility if she is still on an IV. I don't know anything about good options in our area, but I hope that they have given you some recommendations for good facilities.

:bighug::bighug::bighug:I am happy your mom is seeing some improvement. I know how stressed, helpless and tired you must feel. It took so long for my mom to eat again. She dropped over 20lbs in two weeks. I and sending vines and prayers.

Murphy, please give your momma bean a break. There is absolutely NO shark visits allowed today!!!

She dropped over 20lbs in two weeks.
Wow -I just hope the rehab facility monitors food and fluid intake and will push it
I am completely exhausted and now I have a terrible cold - shouldn't be at the hospital but I have no choice
Happy with Murphy surfing this am - I gotta think he had a +15 or +16 nadir - or early onset? I don't know which it is and it drives me crazy

I'm glad your mom is showing some improvement. I hope she keeps improving and starts eating and drinking more. I'm glad Murphy surfed safely today. I hope you get over your cold soon. Sending prayers.

Carol, I can empathize fully. My mom was in and out of hospitals and rehabs for the past almost 2 years. The rehab facility she goes to really DOES matter. they are not all created equal. I am in NJ and the first time, we were fortunate enough to get her into a REALLY good facility with very attentive nurses and aides who monitored everything and would let me know if anything seemed "off". The second time, this facility didn't have a bed available and she had to go somewhere else. What a difference! If I wasn't there every single night asking questions, checking on her and talking to the nurses & aides (if you could find them), I'm not sure they would have monitored anything. She came home with C-diff from that place!!

The 3rd time, I insisted she go back to the first place and made call after call until I got to the right person. I went past the doctors, over the head of the social workers at the hosp and directly to the Rehab admissions person at the facility. Do NOT be afraid to be the squeaky wheel!!

I'm glad that your mom is doing a bit better Carol and will be sending prayers and healing thoughts her way.. and strength for you. It is very difficult to deal with this, I know. Sending you tons of love, support and long distance :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Murphy, please behave for Mama! She's dealing with enough already.

Thanks so much, Donna. Your post is very helpful. I think she got into the best one in the area (run by the brothers from Notre Dame) but we'll see. She still isn't eating or drinking much at all, and I think this will sink her into a deep depression, It's been a week today since she had her stroke - at this point, we're taking it one day at a time. Long term will be an issue since I live 100 miles away

is there anything like a treat that your mom would eat even a little of??? my mom used to sneak in hot fudge sundaes for one of her seniors that had no family that mom stayed with until the end... Alma loved hot fudge sundaes.. of course she would only eat a few spoonfuls but it was better then nothing and led to more food later...

you and your mom have been on my mind... praying and sending good vines... happy to hear she is a little better... no surprise you are running back and forth to the hospital, worrying about Murphy when you are there, your mom when you are home... you need some rest... and i know it cant happen right now but maybe even just steal a hot bath for yourself and some you time... add a little mint extract or mint oil to the bath would help if you are feeling congested... hope the days continue to get better and better:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Amber - you are a treasure. My Mom was better yesterday - she was able to take about 15 small steps with the great assistance of the physical therapist and a walker but it was a huge milestone. She was transferred to the rehab facility in the evening, which is not a great time for her. I was dismayed to hear that the doctors still have her on a pureed diet, which I don't think she needs. I"ll try to figure out the maze of trying to contact her doctor at the facility today - but great idea about sneaking food in. I"m definitely going to do it.
I'm doing better except for being exhausted and mid night awakening (then can't go back to sleep) Thanks for the encouraging words

Carol, such good news of improvement for your mom I do understand your concern with the facility she goes to and hope that you will be happy with it. Someone here suggested switching up your visitations so that the staff would be "surprised" and you would get a true representation of what goes on daily.

Sending hugs to you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks all - Murphy is pulling a trying to go to the shark tank and I need to go to the facility - I've given him 4 syringes of gravy over the last 1.5 hrs and he's still dropping (54 last reading) but at least it is a slow fall
If he doesn't start coming up, I'm going to have to just give him some karo

Yo Murphy, are you listening to your mamabean? No foolin' around, buddy! You need to help out. I've got my eye on you. Surf safe!!!

Carol, we are sending lots of vines for your mom and praying that she will get good care in the rehab facility. Take care of your cold and feel better soon.

Hugs and scritches

I'm so sorry you have been through such a stressful time. I am happy to see there has been some improvement in your mother's condition. I will be praying that continues.

You've gotten a lot of good advice here from people that have been there, done that. I also encourage you to be persistent about getting your mother what she needs. You are her advocate, and you can make a difference. Then come back here and get your battery recharged with the support of your L&L family!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Murphy, you little stinker! Leave those sharks alone so Mama can take care of your grandmabean without worrying about you. Surf safely while she's gone and give her a nice, safe number when she comes home, please.
