Yesterday: Allen's ultrasound results
Good morning!
AMPS 166 shooting .75u
Well the other night I thought that maybe he was starting to work the juice. But it appears not and I'm getting really tired of seeing these blues especially when he doesn't see green at all during the cycle. So will increase tomorrow morning. Not sure that I'll go to 1u because he did have some lovely greens a couple of days ago. Perhaps he received just a titch more juice that night so I might try fattening up the .75.

Boomer ate all of his +3 (I make sure he does before I go to bed), he left a wee bit of his +6 but once again didn't touch his +9. I'll make the +3 and +6 a bit smaller tonight and hopefully he'll be hungry at +9.

Allen's ultrasound showed no masses, no tumours, no kidney stones. So he has idiopathic hypercalcemia......a high calcium level that can't be explained. Dr Larry says we still have to treat the high calcium level and that there is a drug called Fosomax which is given once a week. But he wants to retest first to make sure calcium is still high. When I asked him if a high calcium level is something that "comes and goes" he indicated no, not usually. So what I have suggested is to put Allen on the meds for a month and then retest the calcium. But I'm also wondering if we should just try changing Allen's diet then retesting in a month. Interested to find out what others here with hypercalcemic kitties have fed! Is Fancy Feast an option because Allen really likes it! And unfortunately I'll need a dry food option too.

DH's brother's triple bypass was a success; Dr said it went really well. DH was able to see him yesterday but his brother had not woke up yet. Not sure whether DH will go up today; we have my daughter's bday dinner happening.

k Boomer... the dosecrease is on the table buddy time to make those blues green once more... hope you have a great day with your daughters bday dinner! happy that yesterday with such a good news day :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Boomer, momma is talking about fattening the dose.......

Hope you get some answers with the high calcium thing. I am glad that the testing ruled out everything that could be causing it. My FIL had it and the first question from the doctor was "do you consume a lot of Tums"

Great about BIL's surgery! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Happy birthday to DD :)

Here is an article on using Fosamax in a kitty.

http://www.endocrinevet.info/2012/10/treating-idiopathic-hypercalcemia-in.html

My Mom was on fosamax for osteoporosis. The one thing she was told was to always take a full glass of water when taking the pill since it can damage the esophagus if the pill gets stuck there.

It appears that diet change, then steroids, then fosamax is the usual treatment approach.

Good luck with getting Allen's calcium under control. :bighug: :bighug:

ETA Also my Mom was told to sit upright for 1 hour after taking the pill and not to lie down. Not sure how that would work with a kitty?

I hope Boomer slides down to the lagoon today. Good luck figuring out what's best for Allen. If it was me, I'd try the diet change first because I don't like giving drugs if I don't have to. But you have to find what works for Allen. Sending prayers for your DH's brother's recovery. Enjoy the birthday party.

Personally I probably would try a diet change first, too. My civvie Petey had elevated calcium, but we didn't do the testing that you've done so unfortunately I don't have a whole lotta experience there. His diet is not what we FD beans consider ideal, but his story about his diet is lengthy and I will spare you the details. But, when his calcium was elevated, he was eating Blue Basics dry (I can't remember the exact recipe). When I switched him to Science Diet Hairball dry, his calcium returned to normal. I did some research on Blue products and found that elevated calcium in dogs and cats had been an ongoing problem....

That's not a whole lotta help, I know....but I wanted to share the teeny bit of experience I did have with it.

I'm glad your DBIL's bypass was a success!
