I think a lot of people have misconceptions about using CBD OIL there have been studies & if you look on the internet there is a lot of NEW information. My vet is using it for his dog with arthritis I've been giving it to Ravan, but only a few times a week. My Vet advised I start giving it to him every day.
Cornell University is now doing a study on Cats & CBD oil. They recommended CW "Charlottes Web CBD OIL, said it was a reliable brand. That's the only Brand I trust to use.
Here is some info I just found

CBD As A Natural Anticonvulsant
CBD is a natural compound that comes from the hemp plant. This non-psychoactive cannabinoid has been found to have many therapeutic benefits. For quite some time now, CBD has been used to help manage pain, arthritis, anxiety, nausea, allergies, cancer side effects and tumors in cats. There has been a lot of research into the use of CBD as an anticonvulsant, the results of which have been very encouraging.

A recent American Epilepsy Society study looked at 216 people with treatment-resistant epilepsy. When given CBD, 60% of those people experienced fewer seizures.
A similar study by New York University found that 40% of patients with Dravet syndrome experienced a reduction in seizures when they took CBD. Dravet syndrome is a rare and debilitating type of epilepsy.

The advantage of using CBD for cat seizures is that it’s 100% natural and doesn’t cause any side effects. CBD works on the endocannabinoid system to regulate homeostasis. Homeostasis is the natural balancing of the body’s systems.

The anticonvulsant properties of CBD have been proven in many clinical studies. Many people with epilepsy have confirmed that CBD has helped manage their seizures.

The evidence suggests that CBD for cat seizures is an effective treatment for epilepsy and seizures in cats.

I don't have any problem with using CBD oil for whatever application it can be useful for. My concern is that the seizures are coming closer together. When Ricky had one and then not another one for a year, it was troubling . It was just when they became closer and closer together and then one day he had 9!

If you can get control with the CBD oil that would be great! Maybe he needs more?

seizures are coming closer together.

I've only been giving Ravan a few drops 3 or 4 times a week. I'll start trying it every day . I hope it helps. Vet said if he was having seizures every few days he'd be more concerned.
A seizure has to last for 5 mins or more to cause brain damage. Ravan's so far only last about a minute. He also has Kidney disease & nearly all Pharmaceuticals are bad for the kidneys.

What are the side effects of gabapentin in cats?
Usually well tolerated by cats, gabapentin does have potential side effects that include lethargy and odd movements or loss of coordination, especially while walking. Some cats might experience diarrhea. It shouldn't be prescribed for those with kidney or liver disease.
Thanks Bobbie for checking on us :bighug:

Mine told me 1 minute or two that are very close together. I hope your vet is right.

I do understand your concern with pharmaceuticals. I am the same way. After Ricky being on the drug for a while and with no more seizures, I am in the process of weaning him off. He only take 1 time a day now instead of 2 times and I am going to start going every other for a while and then stop them. My vet said some kitties are successfully taken off it with no more seizures. Maybe the brain gets "rewired" so to speak.

Maybe the brain gets "rewired"
That would be GREAT!
Ravan will be getting blood work done in a few weeks to check his Kidneys. Maybe that will turn up something. From what I read Seizures can be caused by a lot of things. Kidney disease is one of them.
Even a viral infection or high blood pressure.
This is interesting.
Seizures from Sound?
Recently, researchers may have found another interesting possible cause of seizures in cats. In a recent issue of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, a group of British veterinarians reported on a new type of seizure syndrome termed “audiogenic reflex seizures” in which seizures are caused by a particular sound. In this study, seizures occurred in response to specific yet common everyday noises, such as the crinkling of aluminum foil, paper or plastic bags, the chinking of a metal spoon dropped into a food bowl and tapping on glass. Even the sound of ripping Velcro evoked a seizure in some cats!

Cats suffering from these seizures were typically older (more than 15 years). Many of the owners were surprised that noises could induce seizures in their kitties since they believed their cats were deaf! The authors of the study speculated that the cats experiencing the audiogenic seizures still had an ability to hear sounds in the feline ultrasonic range, which meant the cats could still hear high-pitched sounds like crinkling and clinking. However, the “deaf” cats had lost the ability to hear human voices and lower pitched sounds, causing their owners to assume their cats were deaf.

That is really weird ! I did not know animals could have that happen too. Several years ago, someone on prime time TV and I can't remember who it was, but it was a female, use to trigger a woman who watched her to have a seizure.

I completely support the use of CBD oil - for multiple medical issues. I'm glad it's finally become more widely accepted for a multitude of intractable health challenges - in both pets and people. Best to you in your effort to help Ravan - I hope he'll overcome those seizures soon...:bighug:

I'm feeling wiped out:( My Peggy Sue has stopped eating ,sleeping all day I thought she was dying tonight. Every time I look at Ravan I can't help but wonder when the next seizure might happen.
On top of all this my furnace is not working right. Heat keeps going off every few hours. I need to call tomorrow to have it checked.
Just too much all at one time. It's times like this it's so difficult to be alone. How is it possible to smile & be happy I'm trying to take one day at a time but it's so hard to do.

((((Oh JoyBee)) I am so very sorry you are having a rough time right now. It is so very hard when there are multiple issues going on at once and to be alone........

Do what you can for each situation and that is all you can do. Sending tons of vines your way for remedies to all!
